2ND GEN SM BOY GROUP RUN - SUPER JUNIOR + SHINEE

So I'm pulling out the producer card and calling in the experts here. Because we're doing something a little different ... we've spent a lot of time in 3rd and 4th gen here at KPCC but honestly I know NOTHING about 2nd Gen.
And so I called my friend Slim. Funny thing is - we met at at this random after-church hang in East LA where I spotted her BTS pin on her fanny pack and was like "ARE YOU ARMY?!" And she got so excited and said YES. I told her how I went to both the LA and Vegas PTD shows and she was like "I love kpop concerts too!" And then the whole table erupted because apparently everyone there also loved k-pop and k-dramas. It was amazing.
So since then, she's been giving me the inside scoop of all things k-pop. And so when I was brainstorming what to do on the channel, I thought it'd be cool if she gave me a crash course on 2nd gen. And well, she called Holly to help and they both got SO EXCITED about sharing their love for sooooo many groups.
Like literally I was hoping for something short and simple but they just couldn't narrow it down. They decided to do things by label but even then it was too many MV's. And so they split it up guys and girls.
So that's why we're only doing SM 2nd Gen Groups in this filming session. If you happen to like this series, we can have them come back and give me a crash course on YG and JYP groups. I mean, I've heard of BIG BANG and 2NE1 and 2PM etc. But I barely know anything about them at all.
But it was fun doing this run of Super Junior and Shinee. It's so weird seeing them as idols when I initially know some of them as actors. But I can confidently say that it was quite an experience. Very dated ... but also iconic. The hair was HAIR-ING. So much eye liner.
I think I like Shinee better. That's just my opinion based off these few MV's.
But yeah. Hope you enjoy the run. Sorry we talk too much!! I have lots of questions and honestly they just love it so much they get chatty!!

HAHAHA. I cannot lie with my facial expressions. That has been a solid truth for all my life!! I tried really hard to see the good ... I know my face is giving it away and then my brain is also thinking, oh goodness, this is going to make for bad content (PD brain). Like no one wants to see someone hate the band you love. But it is what it is. That's what reactions are supposed be. So I'm quickly like, how can I recover this?? Let's talk about art!! Or quickly go to the next one. I'm just really thankful that I liked Shinee. It would have been hard to have a double blah reaction.

But they're both so busy traveling ... hopefully we'll swing back around to it soon bc I'm still interested also. I really want to do 2PM and Big Bang. All I hear about is their hype and I want to know what it's all about!

2024-09-14 04:44:03 +0000 UTCBtw Jo, your reaction as you were watching Super Junior is priceless, you definitely are one where it is written all over your face...but I love how you tried to find things you did like and relate to since you weren't necessarily feeling the music, like loving how Sorry Sorry was filmed.( and we all have these moments, even with our favs, and that is okay) It is funny I had heard this song maybe covered by another group and did not make the connection because the Sorry Sorry I really liked was the slowed down version and i had just recently watched a live video of them singing it at a concert or fan sign event(have to love the suggestion tab for youtube and had to add it to the playlist. They sounded really good live.

I know of a few including Shinee and I actually have quite a few of their songs on my playlist, also Key and Onew's solo stuff is really good too, Super Junior, I have maybe 2 songs that I like (Lo Siento-2019, & Sorry, Sorry- Answer-the R&B version). I also know TVXQ, and 2PM...oh and Highlight (formerly BEAST, member was in Marry My Husband) that just made a comeback and I love the title "Body".

2024-05-25 22:59:43 +0000 UTCJust a few corrections, Jonghyun was never the leader, SHINee's leader was ALWAYS Onew. Minho is the main rapper. Taemin is the one that took over most of Jonghyun's old parts (not all, but most, including most of his most iconic high notes), not Onew.

2024-05-20 18:16:39 +0000 UTCYou talked about SUJU's chaos but you shouldn't discount the amount of chaos SHINee are, even with only 5/4 (or even 3... or just Taemin...) members. 2nd gen are known as the most chaotic generation and even amongst them SUJU, SNSD and SHINee are known as the triad of chaos. SM used to send them to try out new verity shows because they knew that if the show can survive SHINee they can survive ANYTHING. 16 years later and they are just as weird and chaotic as they've been in the early years...

If you have time, you should watch SKZ covering Sherlock at their latest fanmeeting. Taemin is Hyunjin's dance idol and they have such a cute friendship.

Metro Garden is basically a Chinese remake of Boys over Flowers. There is a Thai remake that is very good. Cinderella and her 4 knights takes a lot of inspiration from Boys over Flowers. It's that start of the rich boy/prep school etc trope. It's basically the Korean Gossip Girl.

2024-05-09 12:14:01 +0000 UTCI am not a Shawol but I do enjoy a lot of SHINee's songs. I love Key so much. He is just sassy and sarcastic and amazing, and I have mad respect for all the guys. I hope that they continue to be loved and appreciated as they move on from SM into their own solo stuff. I only know the Super Junior guys from 1 or 2 songs and a LOT of variety shows, but I respect them breaking walls for new k-pop culture.
