JAY PARK - “GANADARA (FEAT. 아이유 IU)” MV + “CANDY (FEAT. ZION.T)” MV + “GANADARA (FEAT. MVP X HOLYBANG)” PERFORMANCE VIDEO + NPR TINY DESK (HOME) CONCERT REACTION

Hello!

So we're doing something a little different here ... a little k-hip-hop. A little k-r&b.

Not sure how many of y'all love the Korean hip hop scene, but I'm a huge fan. And well Jay Park was one of the first guys that caught my ear. Not only is his music incredibly good but he's funny and he has all the business savvy and he's Korean-American (from Seattle like me!). Granted he's a little full of himself ("BTS, Bong Joon Ho, Son Heung Min, Jay Park") but he can also laugh at himself.

But these two songs - "Ganadara" with IU (ONE OF MY FAVS) and "Candy" is such a delight. And his comedy is so great. And the NPR Tiny Desk with all the smooth vocal stylings ... mmmm so good.

But seriously, the dance crew. Why am I not a cool asian who knows how to move like that?! That's one of the stereotypes that I wish I had!!

Anyways, Jay Park. K-Hip-Hop. Enjoy the reaction!!

Yeah, NPR, & Colors are two of the Western performance platforms I enjoy watching so I agree I have been excited to see Asian artist getting their shine; starting with V(I think I cried😭). Also I enjoy Jay’s humor too, the video with IU was super cute! It is so interesting to hear amazing songs that are done by KPOP/Hip Hop/Seoul artist, that if they were done by any American artist would blow up and be on the radio constantly but because they are Asian the air play is minimal. I am glad the door has opened a bit wider and we are hearing more of it but the US can do better, good music is good music! I am sure there is a lot of red tape/ political/business reasons behind the scenes but maybe one day that will change.

I personally really love the k-hip-hop scene and would love to venture out a bit more and check out other artists. Maybe we’ll circle back!!

We actually did that one!! It’s kind of hidden/buried in a different video but here’s the link: https://youtu.be/D-JIniro58o?si=dkc3cuTHE9tZNqaS

So glad to share with you a bit of Jay Park!! I really like his music and yeah you have to aware that it’s a bit more edgier than some of the other stuff we listen to that’s purely k-pop. I kind of feel like that’s the American side of him when it comes out in his music. Just more of that vibes … but I also love his comedy that comes through. I love that he can laugh at himself and just be an entertainer. I’m so happy/proud that they had him do the NPR Tiny Desk for AAPI month. When k-pop bleeds into western media, it makes me happy ☺️☺️

Also if you ladies like R&B/Soul, you should check out Crush. He did a collab with J-Hope that was a fun, funky vibe but the majority of his music is very neo soul/R&B influenced. And of course no pressure here to react to it, just if you want to hear some good music. Within the last year I had really gotten into KSeoul and their are some really good artist.

Thanks for the Jay Park introduction ladies. I had heard of Jay Park but thought he was a Hip Hop artist(not my go to genre of music, so never listened to him), had no idea that he sung. I also believed him to be pretty well known, popular in SK so I was a bit taken aback by the some of his lyrics. Though I don't like to hear cursing in songs, I did enjoy the NPR performance... he sounded good, the band was great, and I loved hearing the backup singers harmonize.
