EARLY ACCESS: BTS AGUST D - “AMYGDALA” MV + “SNOOZE (FT. RYUICHI SAKAMOTO + WOOSUNG)” MV

Hiya!

So last one in our Agust D Deep Dive. Nothing like ending the journey with the prequel to the trilogy.

Oh man. That scar. The heaviness that Suga went through all those years. How do we even begin to understand the struggle that he went through. I'm so glad that the scar that he visibly and invisibly has slowly began to fade and heal and go away.

There's just something about portraying that anxiety and fear and depression in such a clear and distinct way. Like feeling trapped and crawling on the ground - will you ever get out of this upside down?

And then to think that in the end, in Haegeum, he shoots that version of Agust D dead. That he's gone.

Is that what it's about? Am I reading that correctly?

Idk. I heard that both Suga and RM were reading a book called Almond and I'm not sure if that spurred on this particular song since it's about the amygdala. But I'm going to read it.

We loved Snooze also. It just hits differently. You can tell that Suga really thought deeply when writing this album. I can't believe we haven't listened to it as a whole yet - we sill though. Soon.

Anyways - that's it for now. Enjoy the video!

The visuals of actually seeing what he was going through mentally and emotionally post-accident, it's profound storytelling. I just love love love it. And at the same time my heart hurts for that Yoongi who struggled so much. But then I also am relieved that he has grown past that and received much healing since - both physically and emotionally. It's just so amazing how he puts his all in his music and honestly invites us into that too.

This literally brought tears to my eyes when reading. It definitely brings so much weight to the words spoken in this song and the clips all throughout. What an amazing mentorship going in both directions! From being inspired by Ryuichi Sakamoto and learning from him. But then also taking the time to give to his hoobaes and help them, especially when they weren't afforded the same kind of help. It's so so so beautiful and I love it and I love him and I love BTS.

Ryuichi Sakamoto is a person Yoongi has spoken of in the past regarding his desire to have a career like Mr. Sakamoto. Suga was young (I think 11 or 12) when he first heard Mr. Sakamoto's music in the movie "THE LAST EMPEROR" which was scored by him. He is a renown pianist and composer who branched into electronic music, videogame music, and film music (He is an Oscar winner, BAFTA winner, Grammy winner, and Golden Globe winner). Suga has a video of himself playing Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence on a hotel piano from his stays in the States last year, and he met with Mr. Sakamoto to work on the arrangement for Snooze and to gain mentorship and insight into his life and work experiences during his filming for the Road to D-Day. Mr. Sakamoto knew he had cancer relapse at the time, but wanted to continue making music for as long as his body would allow. He had frequent personal concerts (just him playing music for fans from home) that he shared with the world leading up to his passing on March 28, 2023. I felt that the continuation of mentorship on this song was especially poignant, while still being hopeful for the many idols and industry members who follow them. Yoongi has often said (and you'll see him repeat it frequently on SUCHWITA) that they (BTS) didn't have anyone to give them advice because no one had done the things they were doing before. Now, he feels it is a responsibility for him to share advice and guidance with his younger groups because "If not us, then who will tell you. We've done these things." He made sure to talk to TXT and SEVENTEEN when they had American tours, American award shows, etc. He can genuinely share his advice, comfort, and understanding to the WHOLE INDUSTRY through this song. The 16 bar "Everything will be ok" repeat broke me down. I can't imagine how comforting it is to have your senior tell you that sincerely (especially when it is your native language). I hope that future individuals can hold on to this song when things are difficult and trust that someone knows, understands, and is offering to catch them if they fall. Thank you so much for the listen. I realize this was a heavy and deep, and I appreciate your willingness to take some time to explore his album a little. I hope you listen to a little of WooSung's music as well if you have the time. I think you'll enjoy it. The video you watched for SNOOZE was actually a Weverse exclusive for people who purchased the Road to D Day on Weverse so it came from Big Hit/Hybe. It '''Might"'' get blocked, but I've seen it floating around out there in Youtube land.

For me, the feeling of being in a loop of negative thoughts really was expressed well. I know many people have had that experience, and seeing it represented broke me the first time I viewed the video. Having that feeling of being trapped in something that happened years ago, a moment in your life, that seems so large and agonizing over it hit so hard. I loved the line HOPED I MADE THE BEST DECISIONS, BECAUSE THEY'RE ALL IN THE PAST NOW TOO. For me, the ending where he tried to save himself/prevent these things but could not represented such honest acceptance. Showing visually how, these things happened, but they're a part of me. I can't stop it, I can't change it, but I can accept it. I love Min Yoongi with my whole soul.

I AM SO READY FOR THIS REACTION. I am so excited for your concert experience. I am typing this comment at 2 minutes into the video, so I'm sure I'll have more to add at the end, but I just couldn't wait to express my joy. I love ya'll.
