I also have a friend who needs glasses but for years refused to get them. His theory was that if he got them, his eyesight would be worse. This was eventually stopped when he wanted to get a pilot's license. I can't imagine what the conversation with the instructor was like for this, but I hope it was long and excruciating for my friend.
