To Brian’s point: either a trumpeter is trumpeting music someone else wrote, or it’s music they wrote/improvised. In terms of lip-syncing, many people lip-sync other peoples music, but some of the most famous lip-syncers ever were lip-syncing their own tracks, mouthing along to their own voices (Britney Spears, Beyoncé, RuPaul)

HOWEVER... lip synching is commonly used in an art form. A concert, a movie, or acting of some sort. So the line is blurred a bit but still (in concept) distinct. The acting as a whole may be art but the lip synching would be only a supporting skill like enunciation or hitting one's mark.

To hopefully resolve the disagreement (if that's even possible), simply lip synching is a skill and not an art. You can get better at it with practice and study but it is not fundamentally an expression of self or emotion. Not an art.
