The Shining is a 1997 three-episode horror television miniseries based on the 1977 Stephen King novel of the same name. Jack Torrance (Jack Nicholson/Steven Weber) becomes winter caretaker at the isolated Overlook Hotel in Colorado, hoping to cure his writer's block. He settles in along with his wife, Wendy (Shelley Duvall/Rebecca De Mornay), and his son, Danny (Danny Lloyd/Courtland Mead), who is plagued by psychic premonitions. As Jack's writing goes nowhere and Danny's visions become more disturbing, Jack discovers the hotel's dark secrets and begins to unravel into a homicidal maniac hell-bent on terrorizing his family.

2023-02-22 18:55:15 +0000 UTCI reviewed Doctor Sleep a couple years ago and liked it a lot. Shame it didn’t perform very well. It was the perfect blend of the novels and Kubrick’s film.

2023-02-13 13:39:23 +0000 UTCYour reviews never fail to entertain! I think my favorite Shining-related adaptation would actually be Mike Flanagan's Doctor Sleep. It respects the iconography and atmosphere of Kubrick's original film while also being faithful to the character-driven arcs from King's book (even though it re-purposed the ending from the first novel). It feels like a perfect compromise.
