I Put a Spell on You

“I Put a Spell on You”, a composition written and recorded by Screamin ’Jay Hawkins, was a huge commercial success from the start.

It was listed in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll, Robert Christgau's "Basic Record Library" of 1950s and 1960s recordings, and also in the Rolling Stone magazine's list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.

Since then, many famous musicians such as Nina Simone, Annie Lennox, Bryan Ferry, Joss Stone and many others have presented their interpretations of the song.

In spite of being a blues composition, it does not have a 12 bar blues form, but it rather consists of two parts of 16 bars. The strong rhythm of the groove in 6/8 carries the whole composition and in some moments without a lead melody it clearly comes forward.

The original key is Fm, but this cover is in Em.
