At least it's not the 1500th video on kylie Jenners make up etc. I hate Jake Paul but I watched it. Did it change my opinion? Not really. It was something different for the site and YouTube definitely needs some kind of cred right now from its poor support of creators. It's something. Love it or hate it.

I butt up against it constantly in my own work, and sometimes the only thing you can do is just let yourself rest for a little, and recharge. I actually really appreciate when you talk about your struggles with it, or your messy workspace, or any of the other things you deal with as a creator. As an artist I work pretty solo most of the time, so hearing I'm not the only one dealing with these things can be sort of cathartic.

2018-10-26 17:36:12 +0000 UTCSo regarding Shane Dawson, he's done nothing but YouTube since he was a teen. It's all he knows as a career, he's never studied film formally. So it's no surprise his stuff isn't documentary quality. Also, he doesn't edit his own videos, someone else does it for him -- this is actually a change he made in the last year or so, before that he did edit his own but it was obvious he didn't know anything about how to do it. The new guy's work is good quality FOR YOUTUBE. But not what you'd expect from a show on TV, Netflix, Hulu etc, of course. Youtube is just lower quality content because the creators often start as kids and don't go to college. No one really goes to YouTube for the quality of content that requires story boarding and all that. However, I really think the Jake Paul series was milked, it included a lot of pure raw footage and it could have been one video of an hour long...in the past when he's done similar series there have been 3 or 4 videos each with a different theme - in one he visits the video subject's house, in another does some activity with them and then they "trade lives" for a day. It's a bit more interesting whereas with Jake it was a bunch of nonsense and I swear half of it was Shane going "whoa your house is HUGE" about everyone's house he visited.

I also used to love his early videos when I was 14/15, and now almost a decade later I HATE those videos. Maybe I just have terrible tastes. Oh well.
