THE PODCAST : Ep. 27 / Interviews from the Edge

With Rick being away and my soundboard being at his house, I was left trying to figure out what I could do this week that would be interesting. Since I drive through the Mill Hill/Carrollton Ridge neighborhood frequently and take photos there, I decided to go at night with my mic and interview people. This is pretty heavy stuff so please be mindful of that. These are real people, real stories and I hope you enjoy it.

(Since this is a special podcast, I’m going to release it on YouTube later today. I want to hear everyone’s reaction.)

Thanks everyone!

I absolutely love the second girl Ashley you interviewed!! Is there an update on her??

Kathy Anguiano

This was amazing!!! More content like this!!! 🖤

Feisty Femme

Definitely one of my most absolute favorite episodes!! Please do more interviews ❤️

Lily Losh

Heart wrenching brutally honest piece of journalism, this is why I love you, Dan. I found your work during the pandemic, and as a health care worker your talent has helped me through my roughest days. 💜

Robyn Donovan

Fuck. This is the first one I cried during.

Roadie

This was forever ago. How did I miss this? Such a powerful piece. Amazing. So well done. And I respect that you treat everyone with kindness and humility. Bravo. This needs to be heard by more people. Very thought provoking. Damn dan. You are good. But you already knew that 😜

Cyndi Sleigh

Interesting perspective especially as we would not have heard from them otherwise. Addiction is sad. Kudos for giving them a voice.

Shane

It's too easy for those of us who are lucky enough to have never experienced life on the edge like this to forget that there's this whole other world going on around us. Thank you for giving these folks a voice, Dan.

Alyssa S.

I highly respect the dignity and humanity you gave those you interviewed. I think what some listeners will walk away with is the understanding that we're all, at our basis, the same, human! Even though the majority of your listeners have never experienced such a lifestyle, I think in their own way they can relate with them on a human level, aka the human experience. Or as you stated about addiction to smoking. Sure it's not crack but addiction is addiction, and through those relations one can rationally have an understanding and empathy of what those you interviewed are going through. Or as Ashley stated, "Everyone is addicted to something." My heart broke when she started crying at the end, poor girl. I think it's loving of you to have given her your number to check up on her. I wish more people could be more like you, and your love towards others is setting a wonderful example for others to follow. Also I think you should do more of these interviews. I think you are onto something that sparks an interest with others, and you can see that in this comment section. It's like you are breaking down social barriers/walls. Once again, thanks for doing this kind of stuff.

Sebastien Bolduc

Anyone else hear a very high pitched ringing on the second interview?

Specter Koen

Dan these interviews are incredible! Some of the most captivating and real podcasting I have listened to.

Kenny

I love this. So fascinating. You are doing amazing things. <3

Sally Dalton

I'd like to see more of these candid Baltimore interviews with Rick and Section 8 present with the soundboard lol.

Anthony

Loved Ashley. She seemed really sweet.

Warbloid

As much as I love dead mall (my fav) and adr I think this type is stuff is the most important work you do. Everyone has a story and these are real humans, you or I could be in this same situation that’s what I always try and think. It’s important for people to hear the stories behind people who are addicted. Everyone has a story of trauma or abuse and everyone just deals with it in different ways. Some people drink, some people do drugs. Please keep up this type of series whether video or podcast you are amazing!

Ally Cat

Holy shit this was good. I love that you are talking to people that have already been condemned by society. It shows real compasion, just the way to talk to people and humanize them.

Charlie Sinne

I’ve been a long time fan and follower since the Whiskey Distillery video came out. The Children’s Asylum video cemented my fangirl status. I have really enjoyed watching the evolution of your work, art always evolves and you have been successful in each way you’ve turned. I gotta say, this podcast just blew my mind. Amazing. I’m a social worker/therapist so this is right up my professional alley. This along with ADR are really very powerful social commentaries and you do it without being at all exploitative of the people who have to stay in these shit hotels and deal with life on the streets. I LOVE that the focus on ADR is the piece of shit hotel owners that let people stay in shit conditions and they don’t give a fuck, as long as they make money. I hope you do some more work like this, it’s so well done and it helps humanize the people that society likes to shit on. Much love from another 1977 baby 😘

Kellie

These are stories that need to be told, they deserve to be told. I worked with adults dually diagnosed with mental illness and addiction for many years and the one commonality they shared was their wish to have someone, anyone, who would listen and try to understand. Thank you for this, so moving and so very powerful.

Carrie Walters

this was a great podcast Dan. so powerful. I shed some tears at work listening to all these stories. breaks my heart knowing that there are so many people out there that are so addicted and living on the streets. I wish I could save them all. have a great weekend Dan!

Lindsay Kowand

So natural and easy flowing as if it weren't difficult.

G. Geef

What a great podcast. It left me with some pain in my heart for the people on the sweets doing what they need to survive. 💜

Donna Marie

This was awesome, Dan. I've been in recovery for a shade over five years and these folks' stories speak to my heart. I'm a recovering alcoholic, but a lot of folks I love are trying to kick opioids like some of these folks ... and it is not easily done. I also love the kindness and respect you have for the people you talk with. Really appreciated the last lady who said, "We're people."

Amy McMasters

Loved that last ladies laugh. Awesome, truly awesome. 👌

Jimbo

Watched you on youtube for a couple years. I finaly joined on patreon here. I've been battling depression for years, this was just mind boggling and Truly Hope inducing how everyone of these souls no matter how beaten down they've been or even are now, they still keep working their hustle. They still try to keep a positive end in sight and they are still here and not just taking the easy exit. Sometimes you just have look at life from other perspectives, to see Light even in lifes darke st areas. That is why I Love your content, You can go from Hilariously stupid-funny on youtube to such a Deep Reality check podcast like this. Amazing!\m/😁\m/

Jason Haycook

Thank you for this, Dan !

Robin de Bekker

You are incredible Dan. Such a powerful episode.

Shawn McClure

Thank you!

G. Geef

Dan! This is amazing! Brilliant content! Thank you so much for this! And Thankyou to The interviewees!!

Harry W

I admit I wasn’t really sure how I’d like this episode, but I’m about 15 minutes into the first interview and it is so riveting. Baltimore as a city has always interested me for some reason and I’d love if you did more stuff like this.

Andy Sorensen

Thank you Dan. I'm glad you are sharing outside of here, I think a lot of people need to be educated of the life experiences of others 💛

Elaine

You are doing amazing things.
