There's plenty of references, including the 'Ripley vs Alien Queen' bit and the 'Some days you just can't rid of a bomb' scene from Batman. But the most subtle is the victim in the opening, Baker Bob, named after co-writer Bob Baker. As well as several W&G films, he wrote several atories for Doctor Who in the seventies alongside his writing partner Dave Martin - collectively known as the Bristol Boys - who, among other things, created the character of K9.

For example they’d explore certain topics in science and then live action segments would be shown for most of the episodes
