BTS - Paldogangsan (Satoori) Rap REACTION (Lyrics Review + Explained + Dance Practice)

Comments

This was fabulous. He even acknowledged the president!

Janice suire

I love this song as we have some strong accents and dialects in the UK. Busan is a popular dialect to copy. Jimin and JK have largely lost their Busan accents but occasionally it comes out.

Pauline Johnson

The explanation was great without the explanation. It's so hard to try to figure out what's going on. The dance practice was great too cuz you can see the battle going on between them after you understood what the song was about

Shelly Koch

I actually didn't know about the explaination channel until i watched your channel and that's actually pretty awesome. i used to think that this song was hype and i enjoyed the message in the whole of it about the unity and the differences. But to know all the nuances was very cool.

oneofthemillionarmy

I love that you guys are honest about what you like & don't like. Honestly is Hugely in portent to me. I've always told my son. Just be honest. We can work through any problems, but not if I don't know about it. It might be easier for people to understand if we said "accents" instead of "dialect." Most people use accents in the US to explain the difference of how we sound. For instance people from Wisconsin (a very nice place to visit & live. 😂) sound a lot different than people fromTexas & people from California sound different than people from Boston. I really like that the choreography shows a reflection of the lyrics. I just had Bibimbap a few days ago, without the hot sauce, it is good. Thanks again guys! As always, be safe, be strong, be well and God bless. 🙏💪💜

Ohmygosh!! I am so late cause I have been sooo busy with finishing school but finally I get to see this reaction. I am so very happy cause I have been recommending this since I first found your channel and it's finally here. I am so glad you watched the explained and everything related to Paldogangsan. It's one of my favorite songs of theirs because of the dialect and because you get to learn a little bit about their hometowns and home language or dialect. Please also react or just watch compilations of BTS speaking in satori. Some members dialect are more prominent than others or others' come out in only certain occasions. I just love when they speak in their dialect

Victoria Mendez

Nico is hilarious I really do be struggling to breathe watching you three. His sayings are equal parts funny and informative since I am a foreigner living here.

Cece

Also...wow, this really was a whole history lesson. Amazing, and so fascinating as well.

Solny

"We all speak the same language, just in different languages." Wow, Blaze, just wow.

Solny

Initially, back at pre debut when only Hobi, RM and Yoongi were the members of BTS, it was released as part of the whole Audition hype for Big Hit’s second audition, along with a video of J-Hope rapping and dancing. ( https://m.youtube.com/watch?reload=9&v=xVmIUBvMhrI ) And the famous video of Bang PD rapping to introduce the Audition: “A-Yo Hitman Bang introducing Hit It the Second Audition!” 😅

I STAN THE GREATEST

This was a full history lesson 🧐 thank you for your hard work gentlemen

CarmenF

This song is so underrated it’s a crime! Also I love how this is basically just Sope battling each other💚😆

Bangtan is life

Love the US accent equivalents you came up with! And I miss Hwagae Market🥺 I always think of the April Fools’ live where Yoongi and Hobi pretended Hwagae Market was disbanding. Those two😪😭

Saya J

I've started to notice that Jimin's Busan dialect jumps out when he gets mad at a teammate for screwing up during a game. It's hilarious. Especially in the older Runs

Lizzy's Mom

Thank you for your genuine reaction! I love your reactions and I loved seeing you repeat anything related to Jhope’s satoori under your breath to help the information stick to memory! 😊 if you rewatch chicken noodle soup lyrics, you’ll see JHope mention Gwanju in his first verse. Hopefully that line makes more sense now!

Madeline Gray

Your comment was well worth reading FAM 🤓😬 And yeah I do like the song now and can appreciate BTS and the Korean culture a lot more.

WhatchaGot2Say

Whoa thank you for these interesting facts! Really loved reading this comment 🤓

WhatchaGot2Say

I suggest watch the explanation before watching the mv or lyrics to appreciate and understand the culture better

Delilah Rivera

I love it when they speak in their satoori! I can hear their satoori comes out here and there during Run BTS, bangtan bombs, or any video of them casually talking and I always found it super cute when they unconsciously did it ^^ Tae, Jimin, and JHope do speak in their satoori a lot and Yoongi did it once in a blue moon. Joon and Jin do have their satoori but since theirs are so close to Seoul, there are not much differences from the standard language compare to the southern provinces' boys. Joon actually admires the satoori of other members that he imitates them many times but the satoori he speak didn't come out quite right, that's why the members called the satoori that Joon speak 'Namtoori (Namjoon+satoori)' lol

Jessica Ta

Yes!! I love the Run BTS when they tease each other with the different dialects.. it comes out naturally!!

Jailene Chared

What's fun once you learn about the dialects is when you start recognizing them as the guys speak. Sometimes they do them deliberately to be dramatic or funny, sometimes a member will do the dialect of another member to tease them. It does tend to come out more naturally when they're really excited or really relaxed. (there are a ton of complilation vids of the guys speeking in satoori) As the guys have been together so long they've picked up tones and phrases from each other, almost like they have their own dialect, which as others have pointed out, Namjoon kinda has since he's picked up a lot of the other's speech patterns. They have often mentioned their dialects coming back stronger after a visit home lol It's really fascinating and as you watch more content I think you'll start to pick up on it now that you know what to listen for.

Kimberly Haskins

Poor AJJ 1st his Army Card is revoked and now he missing out on Korean food.

happles

NIBLAJJ!! This was FUN fam! I love watching dkdk tv too! They help explain all sorts of topics about Korea.

happles

Merging my stan and public personas now 😂

S. Jae-Jones

Omg S. Jae-Jones, the author of Wintersong!? 😱 I agree with the U.S. accent comparisons. I always thought the Busan accent had a molasses drawl to its syllables.

Sugas Bandana

I love how I can TRUST you guys your not just falling in love with songs for us but being honest how a song does or doesn't grab you .... and yes some songs are a journey and take time to move you ... this is one of those ... i've fallen in love with because of the performances and seeing them interact during the song ... but now thanks to the explanation video I can now appreciate the content and meaning of the lyrics THANKS as always for being true fun and entertaining

Butifi7

love the reaction as always, this is actually the very first song i heard of theirs back in 2013 on the show champion and it had just randomly popped up on youtube on day haha :)

Cindy Brown

Jin actually does have a slight satoori, which RM has also picked up too (along with the others). Even though Jin was born and grew up near Seoul, his family comes from Chungcheongdo - so he has a slight Chungcheongdo-satoori. It's not featured in this song, of course, because it was written pre-debut for the rapline, but among the 7 members they actually speak 5 different dialects.

Alix Drifty

Super random but my family is from Mexico (we speak Spanish, specifically Mexican Spanish, not European Spanish and we don’t speak the indigenous languages either) and I find it interesting that my dad’s regional dialect has elements of Busan satoori like the usage of “MA” and I never noticed it until we visited his side of the family 🤣 my mom teases him about it because she has a different dialect and find his funny

Janet G

Thank you for taking time to appreciate this song! This is one of my favorites because it is so fun and clever, with BTS being themselves, over an awesome beat!

Chimming

Thank you sooo much for the video! Great explanation!

Precious Lafleur

I was doing a final project when the notification of this arrived, i decided to not read it until i finished cause i wasnt going to be able to resist the temptaition of watch it before i finished and it was close to the dead line hahaha i was definitely the right choise. this one is one of my absolutly favorites, im from Mexico and we have such a only stereotype around international tv/movies and always makes me kinda cringe that we have an incredible diversity in dialects, culture, etc and the world has just thatstereotype as a picture of us... i think that is the same in every country, usualy people from other places doesnt know about the grat things in diferent countries. So being able to watch my favorite band represent their rich culture and history in just one song is amazing, i believe is something all of us must look up to achive someday: represent our pride as a country/region in whatever we do to make a life.

Ma. Fernanda Rivera

thx for Daily Motion link and love how you guys took time to understand the song. It was really refreshing to Koreans too when they rap and sing in Satoori since it was almost like taboo to speak in Sastoori on TV at the time when they release the song. So imagine how shocking and refreshing that our boys made song with Satoori.

mocren Soo

Thanks for taking the time to watch the explanation! I learned a thing or two myself 🤣 my dad is from Busan and mother is from Seoul but I've only ever picked up Seoul because it is considered the "standard"

Sarah Ramirez

Oh yeah glad you mentioned SOPE’s “Hwagae Market” 😊

KM

It's fun watching Koreans to react to this song because it's so rare for artists to rap or sing in Dialect so for example, there's a couple of guys from Gwangju who do reactions and they were laughing at the jokes and felt a lot of pride hearing Hobi rap in Jeolla-do. I think it's really cool they did that. Also, the Rap Line wrote and performed this as a trio before the vocal members joined and they debuted. They revamped it for the ensemble but it was originally just the three of them. Final note, there's a little bit of the chicken and the egg thing with Hobi and Suga's dialects because Hobi's dialect is all friendly and happy and Suga's is all tough. It's cool to think about if their mannerisms and way of speech may have less to do with individual flair than cultural identity.

SNBangtan

Another fun fact, lol, this was a pre debut song with just the rap line originally. They performed this song live as just those 3. The vocal line were later added after they debuted. I could not find the original video but here is footage of the rap line live edited with lyrics on the screen. Enjoy! https://youtu.be/50717F_e2Go

Lashette

yes! bts used to get made fun of bc of their satoori! like to think of this song as a nice little response to that too! lol.

SKim

I love this song! And I'm glad you guys watched the explanation video. Being a BTS fan is a cultural and valuable experience! Some fun facts: -Many years ago, the members used to do live streams with different segments. V and Jimin had a segment in which they did little skits using satoori -When Jimin moved to Seoul to be a trainee , he went to the same high school as V. And it's said that JM had a hard time making friends 'cause he was shy and worried about being teased cause of his Busan accent. So, v stepped in and told his friends to approach JM and befriend him . How sweet is that? -RM and Jin are from cities near Seoul so they don't really have accents, but as someone pointed out, RM picks up the different accents from his boys and they call it the "namtoori (namjoon satoori)" LOL

sugaisagenius

So I have a feeling that this is why the vid was blocked in SK. Reunification is a very touchy subject there. But this is classic BTS making a political statement like only they can in their songs, raps, and lyrics. Suga n JHope use to have their Vlives where they would joke about being from opposing districts and how they would open the door to the combined market. So cute! If I'm not mistaken this was one of the songs that played during Bang Bang Con. Maybe that's why it sounded familiar to Blaze. And lastly, OH HELL NO! I can not handle a pouty AJJ! LOL Somebody get this man a bibimbap, some kimbap, tteokbokki, jjajangmyeon, kimchi, something! Because AJJ not having tried Korean food when he wants to, is unacceptable. LOL! 😂 You guys are the best! Borahae!

Rae Avilez

I had a non-Korean friend ask me what the boys' accents sounded like in terms of US-cultural equivalency. I said that Gyeonsangdo in general sort of reminds me of a US southern accent, but Daegu has a bit more of a twang (like Appalachia) and Busan has more of a drawl (coastal south). In both dialects, pitch and tone matter more than the standard accent, almost more like Chinese languages. Of the boys, JK slips into his Busan accent the most, but a lot of the time it's put on or exaggerated for comedic effect. Jimin will also put it on jokingly, usually when he's trying to be "tough" (you can hear his voice drop lol). It was more noticeable in their early years, as I think their accents are smoothing into the Seoul standard. I don't hear Yoongi or Taehyung slip up much. I don't think Hobi slips much either, but I will admit to having a difficult time with Jeollado satoori. Fun fact! The explanation video said that there was historically tension between Jeolla and Gyeongsang, but Hobi and Yoongi used to do VLives together called "Hwagae Market"...which is a market where both those provinces used to meet and trade peacefully.

S. Jae-Jones

I never even thought to watch an explanation video for that song! I have a whole new appreciation for it now, thank you for reacting to it! Oh and that outro was a chaotic mess and I'm here for it haha

Borahae_Bambi

"Y'all be at work and stuff. Y'all don't live here." Has me cracking up.

Lashette

Satoori does come up from time to time in run bts episodes but I think as long as you remember where their from and the basics or what some words sound like you should be fine :) honestly I really like when their satoori comes out (they usually slip into it when they’re excited, or surprised) and namjoon now has his own accent from being around the members so often and they call it namtoori

MBTSH

Thank you for taking the time to watch these videos! I knew I was in for a treat when I saw my Patreon notification go off that you posted this. I was actually about to leave work to go home but then I sat back down to watch your reaction 🤓 I’m glad the song grew on you! It definitely can go over people’s heads if you’re unfamiliar with the cultural references and dialects, but isn’t BTS so amazing at promoting curiosity about Korean culture? Yes, each member says their lines in their own distinct dialect they grew up with before they had to “learn” how to speak with a Seoul accent. It’s as if New York rappers were battling against Boston rappers- both northeast regions but they have their own accents and cultures. This song is really more about how they’re saying the lyrics since the only time they speak in the Seoul standard is during RM’s verse. When you watch Run episodes, you might catch the members say things in their dialect when they’re messing around/having fun/being dramatic (lol) which is hard to pick up on because everyone (including me! The members talk so damn fast sometimes lol) is so focused on trying to read those lightning fast subtitles! RM picks up on his members accents and will sometimes combine their dialects and speak in it without even realizing lol. As BTS grew, both in fandom and BTS’s own confidence levels, I’ve noticed the members are more likely to speak in their dialects or a mishmash with the Seoul dialect, especially Yoongi and Hobi and JK when they’re not doing a formal interview (those are typically straight up Seoul dialects). I really hope you like the song! It’s a hard one to sing/rap along but it’s still a good hype song when I’m in a long drive or cleaning my house! Sorry for my novel of a comment 😩😭

Satoori is pronounced (as close as us enlgish speakers can get) Sat-tour-ee. Random fact, RM has said he has problems understanding English from some interviewers particularly those with southern accents. Another fact: idols, and entertainers in South Korea in general, are told to learn the Seoul accent for their jobs. So BTS were this group of kids from outside Seoul 5 out of 7 with accents different from the "professional standard." It's rare that an idol group has so many members from outside of Seoul and this was one of the thins they get made fun of. However, most other idols seemed to appreciate them sticking with their roots and putting out a song like this. And as you watch Run BTS episodes you'll see more and more references to their accents. There are even some games based on their accents.

Lashette

so glad you all watched the explained video! it's hard to really grasp the song if you don't know korean and the different dialects, their histories and social contexts. kinda like what RM said in the song, you'll never really understand it (unless you do). many koreans don't understand different satoori phrases lol. the lyric vid doesn't do much to let you in because it's really about how the boys are saying it just as much, if not more, than what they are saying in the song. but love the overall message of embracing differences, while celebrating community. thanks for giving the song a chance regardless! it's always fun to watch you all!

SKim

satoori means accent if u listen the way they say things is different and can actually mean different things depending on where you're from my favorite is Busan and Gwang Ju it sounds sexy to me...just saying
