{EARLY RELEASE!} BTS MAMA 2018 Artist of the Year Speech (REACTION)

Comments

Omg every time I watch this speech I cry... I love them so much 😭

Elina Psych

2018 was indeed rough for them. They had been going almost non-stop for more than one season, with few breaks. This was their chance to have vacations and breaks actually written into their contracts with Big Hit. Their love for their fans is unique in this business. Thanks for this.

LibLady26

it's understandable! it feels really good when we find someone we deeply relate to, and we want to feel that connection all the time, right? the things that connect us to that person often become the most important parts of them to us, and there's nothing inherently wrong with that. but I'm sure there are things in life that affect you that aren't related to those specific tragedies you've been through (the ones you feel you share with Taetae)—sad things and happy things and things that make you angry, etc., that really don't touch on those things much or at all. (if your losses were very recent: this will be true eventually, just give it time 💜) it might help to just remember that, well... this is yet another way Taehyung is just like you. his losses don't define every step he takes, right? because there is so much to live for.

curvy tangerine

Sorry about the spoiler. I deleted my comment.

Jill Cardwell

Oh my goodness, very well said! This is one of the reasons why I am drawn to Jin.

WhatchaGot2Say

This was after the awful November 2018 right? (the terrible accusations agains Jimin and Bts in Japan and they being dragged in social media) ... For that event alone we can understand why it would mean so much to win this award, but then Jin tells us that they being struggling with disbanding or not ( bc the contract with BH was coming to an end), and many other personal things we don't know... So of course.. This moment was iconic. And it showed how open they want to be with us

Scaarlataaa8

Jill, I wanted that to be a surprise for Nico and them...oh well...

Joeli Jackson

If you see fancams of it, the speech made other idols/groups/artists cry as well. That was also army chanting BTS as well.

Marie Davis

2018 was mma performance was spectacular because of idol, 2018 in japan was fun because of anpanman and mama 2018 in Hong kong was the emotional one. It was a rollercoaster of emotions with those end of the year award shows.

Marie Davis

Watching this live as it was happening was mind blowing. Then afterwards I started thinking about it and I cried cuz I couldn't imagine these guys that at that point I just got into them that year that they would break up. In just in that year...in 12 months I had that strong enough connection to these guys that I cried for them. That's powerful to how strong of a bond that they have to each other and to all of ARMY.

Marie Davis

True, most of the boys were pretty upset that night. Guess I just assumed a bit much with Tae cause I went through some similar things :)

dd

I think Jonghyun's suicide in December 2017 really, really affected them as well (but that could just be my own speculations) as they were close to all the members of Shinee. Apart from everything else they were going through to have that happen really, really made them think about whether they could deal with things. Thank you guys for reacting to this even though you knew it would be hard. It was such a stand out moment for them.

cue 150 comments about Outro: Tear lmao no okay I'll stop being a shitbird. this video/event is so important, and the reason is: Seokjin. don't get me wrong, Hoseok breaking down at the beginning is 1) legendarily sad and 2) gets the ball rolling for everything else, but Jin is the one who went up on that stage and, with no permission from anyone and no passing "Go" to collect $200, decided to tell the world exactly what had happened that year. that shit just does not happen in the East Asian music industry. like, it's Not Protocol. it's Not Okay. and he didn't have a single frig to give about any of that, he wasn't concerned about the company's thoughts (probably bc he knew the company trusted him); he just wanted to tell their real story and explain exactly why that award was so incredibly important to BTS in that moment. Seokjin proves himself as an iconic role model in the industry again and again... despite his crippling (and VERY tragic) impostor syndrome, he shows us every day that fame fits him like a glove precisely because he challenges the rules that define it. I'm grateful for his stubborn truths and grateful for all his sacrifices. I just hope one day he'll be able to accept the overwhelmingly positive truth about himself.

curvy tangerine

btw @dd, I'd be a bit careful when reading into the guys' emotions. I feel it's important to state your opinion as exactly that -- an opinion -- as opposed to a fact (ie: "I think this might be why" vs "I could tell this was true"). I mean to my eyes, Hoseok and Seokjin looked equally upset; they just have different personalities and express themselves in different ways. I have never seen Seokjin more upset... and there are no dead relatives to blame it on. sometimes the simplest explanation is all that's necessary. Tae's history of loss tends to be a bit overemphasized by armys I think. is imagining his group breaking up not enough? haha.

curvy tangerine

This speech makes me cry every time. Seeing their raw emotions come through. Just hits hard. Thank you for checking out this speech 💜

Jay

same with Monsta X + Wonho and Monbebes.

curvy tangerine

Yeah, I agree! But I think at the moment if they did disband, it is kind of scary to how to wonder if this millions of people who love you would just suddenly leave. But ofc everyone’s glad that it didn’t happen

dd

especially considering they didn't even make a "goodbye" song in Korean... seeing as they weren't planning on saying goodbye to anyone, lol

curvy tangerine

Such amazing men! I can’t imagine this world without these kings. Thanks for all your great videos! 💜❤️

Susan Lee

I watch so much BTS content that I totally forgot that WhatchaGot2Say already did a lyric review for Let Go 🤦‍♀️ either way its still a cool connection.

Borahae_Bambi

Even if they would have been disbanded I don’t think army’s would have been disappeared like that- for example the whole GOT7 thing- yes they’re not under the same company anymore and yes they all are doing their own thing but they’re still GOT7 and the fans are still there to support. I don’t think there would have been a difference between their and BTS' Situation- ofc I’m glad they didn’t!!! Just saying.

Arzuhii

Yes that’s been a theory since they held this speech. I personally believe it too but what makes me doubt it a little bit is that it’s a Japanese song like- why making a goodbye song in another language but Korean? That’s what’s been kinda holding me back believing it fully but yes.. íthe lyrics and the time it came out fits very well.

Arzuhii

I wished they would have shown the speech of the host at the end cause it was very touching as well. Either way I cried once again re watching this- maaan.. I thought I was prepared 😪✊🏼

Arzuhii

Ughhh... this gets me every time. Especially knowing that Outro: Tear is birthed from the period where they were struggling and wondering if they should continue the journey together 😭😭😭😭

Sarita - uhgood2good

Seeing V break down made me think back to how he went through a lot. He had grandparents and friends who past away (some deaths within a few years apart to each other). So when Jin talked about disbanding, I could tell that it hit him a bit more cause he lost a lot of loved one before and he didn’t want to lose his brothers or armys.

dd

Everything they have now, they deserve it! These guys are my idols and not only do I admire them for how talented they are, I ended up falling in love with bts for their humility and professionalism. They are so natural, they show themselves as they are and without a doubt we grow with them!

Lourdes Meneses

So this is not my idea but I came across a tiktok where an ARMY was talking about BTS and their song Let Go that was released earlier that year in the Face Yourself album. She made the connection that Let Go might have been their goodbye song for ARMY since in their speech, Jin said that they were thinking about disbanding earlier that year when the album came out. And if you look at the lyrics to Let Go it makes perfect sense that it would be a goodbye song. Just thought it was interesting that I saw that tiktok and now you guys have reviewed the speech.

Borahae_Bambi

I was abt to get into the shower when I saw this notification. Stopped the shower and watched this first, knowing its gonna make me tear up. And I did. 😭😭😭. Again. You guys' final thoughts got me bawling. Thank you for this reaction. Love you guys!! 💜💜💜

Yumi Shimitzu

Me too!!!

Yumi Shimitzu

When I saw this for the 1st time yrs ago I cried my eyes out and now for the 20th time crying my eyes out!😭😭😭😭😭I am so grateful they hung in there!💜💜💜💜💜💜💜

Tanya perez

They are killing me!

Terri Beth

I remember watching this in real time back then and when I see the guys walking to the stage to receive the award and see J-Hope's facial expression I said to myself "it seems he wants to cry" and I was not wrong....is hard to see them like this but on that moment when he open his toughts like this and cry I think was the key that open the gates for the rest of the guys to open themselves, in fact guys if you look for on YT there are some fancams of the idols reacting to the speech and been affected by Jin's speech when he mentioned about the disbanding.... it was really hard.....

Kharys A

even though I’ve seen this multiple times, and have cried every time, I am still clicking on the link... to cry again

DrValkyrie

I cry each time I see this acceptance speech. It could be 20 years from now and I would still cry. BTS is truly a a force to be reckoned with.

Dao Xiong

Outro: Tear is because they were talking about disbanding

Ezra Caldwell

LOVED this! I’ve been waiting for you guys to do this one. Now, your next watch needs to be THIS one! (Have the tissues ready again.) https://youtu.be/ENvJwgcTl50

Joeli Jackson

I’m not someone that cries easily but there is something about the way they choke up that makes me cry every time. You can really tell how much everything built up to that moment and was just released. I mean how can you not cry when you see Eternal sunshine himself cry!!

Erika Johnson

that's when Outro:Tear was written

Ale

Yup, me too. Watching Hobi break down is what got me too!

Olivia Schanberger

Yeah same here FAM. It does take courage....more than some of us realize sometimes.

WhatchaGot2Say

Let me grab my tissue box before i start. I cry every single time i watch it. The first time i saw Hobi get choked up then broke down, i did too

Mia

Tears every time. I love how our boys aren't afraid to show their emotions and how much they care for each other.

Olivia Schanberger

oh boy. gotta emotionally prepare myself
