Lore time ...

The Virethorne's. Irvin's lines are all done - he's such a real bro. Important he isn't protective of his sisters, not like his sisters are protective of him - because women outnumber men 7:1. Irvin is such a bro, but he'll also help you understand how Sekarri men differ from human men; not everyone's ripped like Irvin. in fact, until 50 years ago, Sekarri men wouldn't go out at night alone, unless accompanied by their sisters or their pride if they had one. It's still not a great idea even today, and if you are a human man - you can't expect to wander the halls of the Sekarri fleet and not get picked up (literally!) by a desperate girl or two. Sekarri men and women are almost identical in strength; but in practice the women are stronger because they do all the manual labour work. In the past, the men were stay at home and either pampered or controlled under a very tight leash. Things have improved from 300 years ago, but cultural norms are hard to shake. Sekarri men have learned to come out of their shell more since society's progressed, there are 'girl boss' style men like Irvin, but that's quite rare. Overall the men are super chill, focused on looking out for each other - including human men. They'll be quick to bring you into their brotherhood, though they find it hard to understand how some human men might feel in heaven with this situation. In fact, most Sekarri men, feel it's their duty to shatter your illusions, that if you don't pick your pride wisely, things could go awry very fast. Narah you've met already, and Isara the bar maid will get introduced later on when you wander through the plaza. She's friends with Liora and work in the same sector.

Good question. In Lion society, birth rates are about 50% (roughly 53% males as is average for mammals). So this differs from Sekarri society, as male lion's get kicked out ever 3 or so years by younger lions. This prevents genetic degridation. Evolution fixed this by not needing to do much because males can sire many females. In Sekarri culture, females were adversly affected by environmental factors 1 million years ago. This meant evolution adapted by upping the female birth rates to 7:1. Over time, the environmental factor went away, but that's what the Sekarri have today. So males are truly scarce commodities, which means the women fight fiercely over them, there is no guarantee another male will come to replace him in the pack. This means that males rarely fight or contest space. It does happen , but very rarely.

Mr Adam McMurchie

How often is there competition between the males of the species, as lions in the real world often have to compete for mating rights, even though their female-to-male ratio is roughly 3:1

Sounds like a very good reason to go out alone. :3
