Chapter 54 had been fighting me the whole day. I writted it like three times before I got pissed because it felt weird as fuck for some reason. My mum gave me a call while I was fuming and told me to stop and just go re-read the story so I could get in the mindset. While I was doing that I made a kind of Profile Page for Gabriel that I put on QQ, so if that's something you guys want to see here's the link:
What this re-read gave me was also a vision of how the earliest chapters were kinda shitty. But as I said before, I don't think I could try to write a HP fanfic from the start without going crazy. I'm tired of retreading the same first steps - so I'll just treat those first chapters as growing pains and keep going. Maybe one day I'll come back to them and rewrite only them so they better match the kind of writing I'm doing right now.
Finally, I did get what was the problem with Chapter 54 - namely, lack of planning. Before I start writing a Year, I plan all of it beforehand, and I have a rough planning of the story through the whole "Harry Potter Arc", including the next world that Gabriel will go to. The problem is that my plans don't always translate into things I can, want or manage to write - and sometimes things like the Hermione relationship happen, that just completely change the plot I was planning. Gabriel wasn't supposed to actually consider romance until next year, and he was only supposed to start one on the one following - instead here we are.
Those mounting changes result in me patching up my plans, but things always get weird one way or another, resulting in more changes to the plan to make things fit, and that culminated on today's problem.
So I spent the last hours remaking the plans I had for this fanfic with the current path it has taken - and when I finish the 3rd year, which should be around Chapter 60, I'll do it again, and once more once Christmas of the 4rth year arrives, and so on.
... I got a bit lost in my explanation. I'm sorry, it's 00:40 right now and I can barely see the keyboard.
One of the previously mentioned emergency changes was the ending of the Last Chapter. Actually, that whole fucking chapter was unplanned. Neville talking about his parents wasn't supposed to happen, but I thought it made sense with his growing confidence and his faith in Gabriel magical prowess.
Anyways. The end of the chapter, it didn't make sense. Gabriel would never go to Dumbledore before his mother, he would never do something that could seriously risk himself without consulting her, and he wouldn't go to someone else in something that is her specialty. So I'll be rewritting that end.
I do however want him to actually go through the proccess, so the overall beats of what's going to happen haven't been changed too much.
One way or another, tomorrow I'll be releasing the revised version of Chapter 53 early on, and then Chapter 44 and maybe 45 depending on the size of 44, which may be sizeable, I'm not sure yet, we'll see how the dialogues develop.
