Easy A in Baking - Part 1

Back with a new story. This is another commission, same as Midnight Bakery and Fit vs. Fat. They are quickly becoming my favorite commissioner, and we are even lining up something to follow after this story as well, so I hope you are enjoying the stories. This one is going to be on the bigger side, in line with Life of a College Grad, which just wrapped up. Please give it a like or a comment to let me know what you think.

The reason Olivia was most excited to return to campus was the baking class she had enrolled in. Olivia was heading into her sophomore year of college, moving in with the best friend she had made her freshman year, and already planning the best way to skate by and still pass her classes. Olivia was the type of girl who was more excited by the college experience, rather than the experience one was supposed to get in college. Her whole life she had put in the bare minimum effort that maximized her output. She almost felt like it was a game. She wasn't a deadbeat, she still floated near the more enlightened of her class, but preferred to ride coat tails, than do the work herself.

This is why she signed up to take a baking class in the first place. Olivia had gone to college right after high school, it was the thing all kids do, or at least that is what she was told. Plus the thought of getting out of her parents house immediately for four years sounded pretty nice. Olivia was enrolled in a liberal arts program, mainly because she didn't know what she wanted to be when she grew up. The only problem was Olivia was already a grown up, she just didn’t know it. The benefit to her liberal arts program was it allowed plenty of opportunities to be creative with her electives, hence the baking class.

Olivia had loved her freshman year, it was everything she wanted it to be. Freedom from her parents and she made tons of new friends. Just about everything about going to college was better than high school. Olivia didn't even mind the typical freshman fifteen that she and most of her friends found impossible to avoid. The pounds had pushed Olivia up to a respectable 150, which Olivia felt accentuated her already curvy frame. She dared not gain any more though, she worried about being dangerously close to fat. Olivia, who never put any extra effort in, had never worked out a day in her life, so keeping her appetite in check was the only control she had.

Nothing sounded easier than a baking class though, and that is just what Olivia was looking for. Even if there was homework, making a cake sounded more like edible fun than homework. Plus it would be extra easy since she was splitting an apartment with her new best friend, and she'd have her own kitchen. Olivia had met Fran during her orientation week at the beginning of last year and they had become fast friends. Bonding over chick flicks and trashy boy bands who thought it was still the 90's. Olivia had made plenty of friends, but Fran was her favorite, she loved making fun of her old lady name. So when Fran found a two bedroom apartment Olivia almost begged her to let her be her roommate, looking for her own place or another roommate sounded like so much work. Plus Fran's place was so close to campus!

The deal was done, and Fran was looking forward to it as much as Olivia was. Time would tell how they would be as roommates, this was their first time ever living on their own, but they had the essentials, even if they were mostly hobbled together hand-me-downs. Best part was they could move in weeks before school started since they had the place starting at the beginning of August. They spent those weeks unpacking their stuff and setting up their new space to suit them. It wasn't huge, just two bedrooms, a kitchen and a living room. But it was enough to call their own.

Before they knew it school was starting and they started to attend their first classes, getting their syllabus for the semester, learning that they really didn't need to buy that text book that said it was required for the class. On Tuesday Olivia attended her first baking class. It was much like the couple other classes she had the day before, a get to know you, lots of papers being handed around the room, no baking today unfortunately. Her professor did have something interesting to say though.

"Alright, I will need one volunteer to act as the class taste tester. This is a one person job, and one person alone. This will allow for consistency. Since this will be a big undertaking for this person, they will be exempt for any in-class assignments or homework, they will have enough work taste testing to keep them busy."

Olivia's eyes lit up and her mouth watered as her professor explained all about the taste tester position for the class. Baking class was already sure to be easy, but this was a free ticket to an A with practically no work. She had to lock down that position. So immediately after class Olivia rushed over to her professor to secure it.

"Hi professor Mondale, I'm Olivia. I'd like to take the class taste tester position." She said politely.

"Take? Well that seems aggressive. Olivia I have to consider anyone else who is interested as well before I make a decision."

Oh no, Olivia was banking on being first to just lock this down, and she had been so presumptuous right at the start, there was probably no way professor Mondale would pick her now. No, Olivia really wanted this, she had to close the deal now or it was never going to happen.

"But professor Mondale, I think my promptness should be rewarded. I didn't second guess this decision at all, don't you want that quality in a class taste tester?" Mondale seemed to be mulling over what she had said. "Please, I really want to do this."

"Are you sure?" She asked with a slight grin.

"Yes!" Olivia replied enthusiastically. "I want this more than anything. I'll be the best taste tester you've ever had."

"Alright, well I can't argue with that enthusiasm. If you want it that badly, it's yours. You cannot miss a single class though, if you do that will significantly impact your grade and standing in this class." Olivia nodded as that would not be a problem. "Well I'll see you Thursday then." She said packing up the last of her things. Olivia turned to grab her book bag and trotted out of the room proudly.
