I had a great big out loud "aauuuooooog" when I saw the full body rot screen. That was scary and I wonder if a limited duration rotting curse will heal itself when the status timer runs out, or if the parts will stay infected? On swimming, the DF wiki has pretty good facts: https://dwarffortresswiki.org/index.php/DF2014:Swimming_pool The big challenge is that dwarves only path through 3/7 of water, but need at least 4/7 water to get swimming XP, but drown in 7/7 of water. So you need some way to dump them in some medium-deep water, far enough that they get some swimming practice dragging themselves out, but not so far that they give up and just tread water forever. The wiki also points out the silly way, which is a dwarf riding a minecart in 4+/7 water gains swimming experience, so a dwarven water roller coaster does work great for swimming XP.
