I personally really liked the direction you went in and I think it was probably your only realistic option. Dwarf Fortress is a cantankerous beast once you start a downfall. The game spirals so hard once things go bad and it just sets off a chain reaction of tantrums. You weaved the narrative very well. Now we have two crazy necromancers about to face off. Looking forward to it!
