Tips and What's Next in 1.3?

Just wanted to give you all some quick tips and also let you know what's coming next in Pornspective.

First of all some quick tips. I've been asked how to clear out your system and effectively start again. Dead simple, close Pornspective first. Then in Windows you need to locate the "appdata" folder under your windows user profile. This is a hidden folder but you can type in the location in the address bar. So if your username is Fred then you will find the following works :-

c:\Users\Fred\AppData\Local

In this folder find the Pornspective folder and simply delete it. Now fire up Pornspective again and it'll be like brand new! You'll obviously need to setup your tags and rescan your library. SO WARNING only do this if you really do want to "start again".

What's Next?

Well the next release will have two new features. Firstly a backup and restore feature which allows you to backup the Pornspective folder (mentioned above) into a zip file. It'll also allow you to restore from a backup. Obviously with all the time and effort you put into managing your collection you really should think about backing it all up, so this will allow you to do just that. Also perfect for moving to a new PC.

Secondly there is an option to now regenerate the video thumbnails. You can choose to regenerate them randomly if you decide the thumbnail strip doesn't quite represent the content well enough. There is also an option to use the thumbnails from bookmarks created which may show the content in a better way. I've used this function when I've come across videos that seem to be corrupt and can't create thumbnails in a standard way. Instead I've launched the media player, create bookmarks and then used them for the thumbnails. Sorted!

1.3 with the above functionality will be available over the weekend I hope.

Finally for the version beyond 1.3, I've been working underneath the bonnet to create a plugin system for news feeds, twitter, and porn sites like Eporner.com. The idea is Pornspective can then check internet feeds for new content etc and download. Furthermore I may release the interface library at some point for other developers to create their own plugins if I get the interest. 1.4 will be a big release I think and due late March or early April with a couple of plugins packaged.
