A heads up about ... sales tax!
Added 2020-06-30 16:04:40 +0000 UTCHi patrons, hope you’re doing well and enjoying my June newsletter! I wanted to give you a heads up to a change that will be happening on Patreon starting July 1st, in case you didn’t see a message sent from Patreon themselves.
Patreon will start charging and remitting (forwarding to your local tax collecting agency) sales tax on certain Patreon rewards on July 1st. That means there may be a slight increase in your Patreon pledge, and that increase will be going directly to your government. The amount of the tax is dependent on your tier level, state, and country.
I’ve adjusted the tax settings so that you won’t be charged sales tax on the physical thank you rewards I send (thank you cards, doodle portraits, and art packs,) because they’re a one-time gift rather than a repeating reward. Sales tax may apply to the tiers that receive monthly Making It articles and monthly updates, depending on the tax rates in your state or country.
For more information on the switch, Patreon has shared a very useful article that you can check out here:
https://support.patreon.com/hc/en-us/articles/360043055071-New-Sales-Tax-Requirements-on-Patreon
Again, it should only be a slight increase to your pledge amount, but if you have any questions or concerns please let me know!
Thanks, friends!
xoxo, Ragon
