Friday Thoughts Ep.4

Hello patrons and happy Friday!

Today’s update will be brief as it was a relatively uneventful week, trying to wind most things down to get ready for my week of vacation. During which I plan to PLAN on winding things UP with my business even MORE!

Part of this week was spent on my largest commission to date, a 16x20 ‘traditional’ colored pencil house portrait of the client’s childhood home. It still needs an hour or two more of refining. the idea of working on a traditional styled piece in a new medium was very daunting, but it’s been encouraging to go through the process and finding the outcome relatively successful.

I also finished my first digital portrait commission this week! Once again a new medium, pretty intimidating. I can see a lot of room for improvement, especially in the colors. But it was SO fast to make a piece like this digitally! What usually takes me ~4 hours to finish traditionally took ~2 to finish digitally. An excellent lower cost option for the future!

I’m very happy to say that I wrapped up my Drawing Home 30 Day project, which ended up being a 25 Day Project. I had fun getting out of the house walking around more, drawing a wider variety of subjects, experimenting with color and composition. I think at the very least I might be able to get a few prints out of the project! But gosh I’m glad to be done and doing something else. It was really hard to have a full day of drawing only to add one more drawing on top of that. Looking back I think it was a scheduling issue, I really should have done these first thing in the morning!

The other benefit of this was that I forced myself to post at least twice a day on instagram, which definitely grew my content quickly. I just wish I liked that content more. I did have fun with this ‘Icons of Seattle’ entry:

Non-Art Life:

Played a trippy and difficult video game called Super Hexagon. Listened to the amazing Creative Pep Talk Podcast from the super rad illustrator Andy J. Pizza. Started a daily meditation practice with the help of an app called Head Space. Discovered that Trader Joe’s Boxed Shiraz is VEGAN.

I think that’s going to be all for this week! I hope to have a lot of fun stuff coming up in the future.

As always thank you guys so much for joining me here and supporting this independent artist! My patrons, my lovely friends, thank you.

Let me know in the comments what’s going on in your art or non-art life! I’d love to hear from you!

xoxo
