Friday Thoughts (Ep.2)

Hello again, Patrons! Happy Friday!! I hope you’re doing something super satisfying and fun and relaxing this weekend.

So it has been a productive week looking back. After a week of relatively little commissioned work or pay I decided to release a Mother’s Day Sale for portraits, and of the ten openings I offered I got six commissions back! I am so happy with the results and have thus far had a great time working on them. I really love doing portraits of people, and most of all I love how happy they make people when they receive them.

The art vs. artist meme has been making its way around the internet again! I am so proud to finally be confident enough to join, with the image up top. The meme is supposed to be a way to see if artists look similar To the art that they make. What do you think? Do I look like my art?

I also finished and delivered the Dungeons and Dragons portraits I was commissioned. Those illustrations were something I wasn’t sure if I could do, considering I have very little experience in fantasy art. But I am finding confidence in my ability to learn as I go and still make a product I am proud of.

Speaking of which, I began work on my first house portrait commission this week. This is the full size (16x20) preliminary sketch that I sent to the client. Once approved I transfer this layout to the final paper and begin the final piece. I aim to provide a sense of nostalgia and comfort using soft colors and gestural linework, as this is the childhood home of the client. Do you see the little hearts in the shutters? So lovely!

I also worked throughout the week on my Drawing Home travelogue, a daily visual journal of the city that I live in. Consistently, I don’t want to work on it haha. I always think to myself I don’t want to leave the house, I don’t want to walk in the rain, I don’t want to stop working on the commissions. And consistently I am happy that I do, that I take some time to look around me and experience my city. This is my favorite page from this week, from the prompt ‘fruit’:

Non-art life: I am planning a trip to Colorado to visit my sister (and patron) Kenna, and a trip to Tulum with my family now! I am very happy to have traveling in my near future. I‘ve been listening to a podcast of professional voice actors playing Dungeons and Dragons called Critical Role. I bought a pair of overalls from a secondhand store and they are my new favorite article of clothing. I learned how to make my own vegan seitan sausages and they are delicious and so easy. I make a bunch and then freeze them (apparently yes I am that kind of person.)

I feel like I have so much more I could share about this week but I’m going to try and keep it short! Thank you so much for supporting me here, you all are my extra special followers. Contact me if you would like a discounted Mother’s Day Portrait, I’d be honored to make one for you!

Very very soon I plan to release a new wallpaper set, and once I make my first batch of stickers I will send one to all of you!

Have a great weekend sweet peas,

xoxo
