Red White & Royal Blue (Movie)

Hi!!

Our first bonus episode discussion is here! We watched the Red White & Royal Blue movie and had some drinks to chat about it! We really enjoyed this movie and can't wait to hear y'all's thoughts!

(Warning: Someone (my neighbor) *rudely* decided to mow their lawn while we were recording so my audio gets a little wonky here and there bc it was so dang loud in my office for some reason. Sorry about that! -Ash)

Thanks for hanging out with us!

TRACKED THE MOVEMENT OF THE MOON.

Ashley and Alyssa

I can’t remember where I saw it (maybe Tik Tok?) but during the first love scene when it cuts to the Washington monument, someone calculated the movement of the moon (LOL I’M NOT EVEN KIDDING!) and said about 3 hours had passed. So I choose to believe there was full nakedness and they both got redressed. 😜 I cannot attest to the accuracy of thus but it’s my headcanon nonetheless, lol

“I want her for my wife” sent me 😂 Also… SAME 😉

Oh, I love this!! It really makes a huge difference when the people making it care deeply about the project.

I've also read a lot of interviews from the director and cast (along with a great series breaking down direction choices on tiktok) and that definitely made me appreciate it more knowing just how much they cared about the project. like how the director is a big fan of the book and mentioned how amazing it was to bring it to life, or how Taylor talked about how he read the book like 7 times over filming to make sure he knew alex.

I really love this movie. I definitely agree that it has pacing problems and would have been useful to have more before they got together. wish it would have been a mini-series. i think trying to separate it from the book and think about it as its own thing has helped me like it more. (i definitely agree with the dislike for Miguel)

Quote from article: "López realized early on that he wanted to make the change, revealing they cast the role in fall 2021, one year before Queen Elizabeth II died at age 96. “While Her Majesty was still alive at the time, I also knew that for most of the life of this film, most people will access it while there is a King of England,” the director told Us. “Between King Charles, Prince William, Prince George — for most of our lifetime, there will always be King of England. And so, I wanted to sort of make sure that the film in some ways made sense to people for a hundred years.” "

Interesting! I could have sworn I read somewhere that they changed it after the fact...

Ashley and Alyssa

Director Matthew Lopez said the decision to have a king was made (& filmed) before the Queen died, & was done to differentiate the film from reality.
