It's finally up, THE JULY REVOLUTION.

To be totally honest, one of the reasons that I like this period in history is that reading about 19th century elections is fun. Unlike the Roman era, you actually get to know the results! You can actually visualize them on screen! Fun! Huzzah!

I've been plagued by technical issues for the last 14 hours, so I can't think of anything clever to say. This video will be released to the public on YouTube in approximately 1 month. I'll be sleeping until then.

Enjoy! :)

There are a lot of people who just watch him for the rome videos.

FotY

quality over quantity. go watch other historians.

Bartłomiej

That was so good, I've already rewatched it twice. Is it possible to get a link to the intro music? It's so good!

Simon Grondin

It's pretty clear that he really doesn't like Octavian, and since he last covered the fall of Antony and Cleopatra, the next chapter would naturally focus on Octavian's consolation of power. So it makes sense to me why he would want to focus on another time period.

Alex Feinstein

Also the “foreshadowing” thing has been a running bit in HC vids for years at this point

Sharkie

That conflict - The June Rebellion - was connected to this revolution! Only, it happened a couple of years afterward.

Jemolk Ervich

Except, it really doesn't devalue these videos as educational resources. The information present in the video isn't changed by the presence of humor.

Jemolk Ervich

Such a phenomenal video on 1830!

George Fairhurst

To be fair, he was employed by an empire that was desperate to cling to the Old World and that really had to keep liberalism out.

Stijn Groot

i think he might be done with the rome series

Jono

Most modern scholarship on this period contends that Metternich was a man desperately trying to cling to the Old World, and a man whose political instincts got worse and worse by the year. HC is actually a bit more forgiving and fairer towards him than most other pop historians.

Ash Soley

When’s the next rome video

Jack Ruwet

Another masterpiece. I can't wait for the next installment!

Kyle Poe

Your presentation is one of the best ways to get educated about history while being entertained at the same time. Amazing as always!

Harald Schmidt

Misspelled ordinances at around 25min mark

Gintaras Valentukonis

It's interesting talking about what was meant to be the last French election while we are at the moment witnessing what is almost definitely the last US election. Trump, or as I like to call him- Caesar, only needs 3 and Harris needs 54. Goodbye NATO, Goodbye democracy.

MerchGrahamAllen,ymwyafodadau.

The liberals managed to overthrow the government in a month but it takes you a year to make a video 😂🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿.

MerchGrahamAllen,ymwyafodadau.

can you just PLEASE make more videos then 1 every 7 months? just maybe?

RiseofArn

I pay good money for those memes, thankyouverymuch!

Tichael Murner

Incredible video. I have to say, might Metternich just not be as capable and competent as he's often made out to be? His foreign affairs have proven to be more bad then good (even with his skill in the 1815/1816 conference). He was also chancellor and head of the government of Austria during a period of big decline. He frankly failed a lot, and with the power of hindsight he just often took the wrong decision even if with the right reasons.

Stijn Groot

Rawr XD

Sharkie

It recaptures the adhd attention span of zoomers such as myself when we’ve become distracted with our chickens or saltwater. I am here for every “ “meme XD” ” style joke as you say and I think it’s truly despicable to describe anything from this HC masterpiece as “godawful”.

Sharkie

And to the surprise of a total of zero people, talleyrand changed sides.

leonardo lopes

Love the Eric Hobsbawm tie-in at the end. I read him during my History Master's and he's my favorite historiographer by far.

Benjamin George Nelkin

It is always an absolute Highlight for me when you upload a video! Great work! Thank you!

Marcos

I am of the opinion that they are all good, my favorite personally of the last season on the Russian revolution, usually I have found if people like S3 then they will end up going back and getting the context. I really like the French revolution/ Haitian revolutions back to back as different world perspectives of the same events and ideas as well.

Adam Bretsch

25:14 typo “ordinences”

Andrew Spearman

Amazing as always, keep it up!

Manuel Díaz

i always love to watch your content, it consistently leaves me vastly more informed on the politics of the time while still being extraordinarily entertaining. cant wait for more

Nosey Crane

A bit random, but for what it’s worth, I am a new patreon member and I disagree with some of the comments. I think you should just make content on whatever you like and if you make jokes that’s ok. They’re funny.

Matthew

Wow! As always I’m blown away by your storytelling ability, truly a one of one creator. I cant tell you how many times I’ve rewatched your videos and I can’t wait for the Britain vid next!!!

John Hetey

thx. that worked

Lukas

Kings named Charles try not to get overthrown challenge: IMPOSSIBLE

Stilluetto

Just finished Mike Duncan's Revolutions podcast, and now I see this? Depression finally cured.

Kodiak Lewin

Amogus

Paolo Spica

I’m all for some dry humor in these videos, god knows it’s a staple of the channel, but could you maybe consider toning down the “meme XD” style jokes in these vids like that godawful “foreshadowing warning”. It devalues these videos as an educational resources and makes it harder to focus on the actual content.

Ash Soley

Update: It worked when I watched it on my smartphone

Robert Griffith

I thought for a moment that this was the conflict Les Miserables was based on but this insurrection seems like it was way more successful hah. I want more videos about Alexander the Great's campaign!!! :)

Russell Watters

But the English Revolution (s1) is also so so good

Lee Baker

I have that problem, too, it says "Sorry, because of privacy settings, this video cannot be played here."

Robert Griffith

When I try to click the video I get ... nothing? not sure whats happening. anybody else got that problem?

Lukas

Awesome video man! It made my whole week better. You’re genuinely my favorite history content creator.

Matthew

If you're feeling impatient, I did a video about Reform-era Britain. It's from a Jewish perspective, but it talks about the other important changes. https://youtu.be/dFdpPCl3nOI?si=-Ssz3NBjO1NjUNF4

Sam Aronow

This was definitely worth it!

Evan C Rajala

Wow none of this is relevant or relatable or resonant to current events at all nope not at all *nervous sweating* (Seriously every second felt like that aaaaaa)

Pietro Gagliardi

The carriage Polignac got into being pulled by pigs is a good touch.

Heaven

I was just listening to a podcast about the same subject; it is called Revolutions podcast, and the July revolution is covered in depth over the 6th season. I am guessing that anyone that finds themselves here is already a fan of Mike Duncan's podcasts, if not, you are in for a treat. Each season covers a different revolution and can be listened to together or standalone. Season 3 (the French revolution of 1789) is a good place to start as well.

Adam Bretsch

Ultra conservatives make a stable government challenge (impossible)

Harry Morgan

Thank you sir!

Ismaili Simba

Banger!

kayle

Time to watch peak

Toby Muhamad

Adore these videos!

Witty Comeback

Great video as always… Can Russia be green next time? Please? The people (myself) yearn for green Russia.

Ted Vignocchi

Thanks for making these, man.

John McGraw

"Unlike the Roman era, you actually get to know the results!" (Laughs in 1918 Russian Constituent Assembly Election)

Sam Aronow

This a week before the election is…. Scary. Great stuff man

Lavar Ball

no other history channel has me watching the newest release at 2 am and then making me wish the next one was ready now.

Rwfssqsfc

Local monarch makes peaceful revolution impossible, you'll never believe what happens next

Joshua Evans-Lowell

This was soooo good! Thank you HC!!!! My fave history YouTuber by FAR!

Sharkie

We all know there’s as much chance of a third upload as the ultra-conservatives had of holding onto power

Sharkie

I love this video and I love you, Historia.

Faris Natour

That would be the 1832 revolution, not the 1830 one.

Robert Jarman

Singing the songs of angry men

Raetekusu

I was thinking when you had talked about the British Liberals that you were going to say the Great Reform Act of 1832 related to suffrage and rotten boroughs, but slavery would absolutely be on the list of things that too would be huge.

Robert Jarman

You sure take your time making these videos but they are definitely worth the wait

Alaa Jabre

Spelling error at 25:00 — should be “Four Ordinances”

Harry Harman

I love that you added that small breadcrumb of information at the end! Very epic. Looking forward to the next one.

Splicer87

I wonder what sources Historia Civilis used in this video 🧐

Mo Zaini

FINALLY!!!

Sharkie

Amazing! Can't wait for 1848

Derreck Xiao

3 meters is ... learn how tall a meter is high. PRICELESS!!!

Erik Hare

It seems to me the French aristocrats did not know the history they were living through

7and2make10

Do you hear the people sing?

Erik Hare

Oh my godddd reading Les Miserable right now and literally on the Louis Philippe chapter AND just finished the rest is history French Revolution season 2 pod this is such good timing

Elite Chungus

Just finished work for the day, couldn't be more excited to sit back and enjoy the new video
