Sextus Pompeius and the Sicilian War (42 to 36 B.C.E.)

It's a Christmas Miracle!

Boats, Pirates, Famine, Incompetence, Being Bad At Things, Bravely Running Away.

This video follows Octavian, and clearly it covers *a lot* of ground.  When I began the research process, I thought that I would be able to cover Antony & Cleopatra as well, which in retrospect seems like madness.  That stuff's all mostly researched and kinda-sorta-maybe in a first draft, so... that's coming as well!

I've been hinting on Twitter for like 6 months that I've been doing a bunch of research about "boats," and believe it or not, this is *not* that video!  Still readin bout boats.  Also readin bout diplomats.  I probably shouldn't say any more since I don't entirely know what shape that topic will take, but... that's an ongoing thing on the back burner.

Other than that...have a ~*~*~RELAXING~*~*~ holiday!  We just entered Second Lockdown here in Canada, so I anticipate a lot of boat readin taking place over the coming weeks.

(Be advised that I always wait to trigger the Patreon payment until the video goes live to the public.  This video will go live in January, which means the Patreon payment will be for February 1st.  Just so 'ya know.)

All the best!

He was the best roman emperor out of its 109 emperors, by far. Name me one good emperor who didn't do as he did and who wasn't as ruthless as he was? He read his Machiavelli.

Awesome as always. Interesting to note Octavian started the "tradition" of most members of the Julio Claudian dynasty have a sadistic streak a mile wide. It is interesting that once all rivals were dead, all needed loot was stolen from murdered people, and the Senate was cowed, he became a seemingly decent (great? the greatest of the Roman emperors? we'll see how much more revision that view should be given) ruler. It's always interesting trying to figure out what absolute power will do to someone. Obviously it didn't agree with most of the early emperors.
