ROMA VICTOR!!!!

Your videos are awesome! They are so entertaning, and I have learned so much from them that I otherwise probably would never have learned on my own. The only problem now is that when I think of Julius Cesar I think of a red square. :)

What happened to the soldiers after triumph? Did they stay inside the Pomerium in the evening and lose their job or did they all leave the city after the parade? Did the soldiers receive some kind of award from Triumph?

Thanks you for all your hard work man, these videos are always so amazing and educational!

These are always so amazing and informative! Thank you for all your hard work!!

Endlessly

I had the same thought! From what I can tell, nobody ever tried to do this. I suppose it's because if they wished, the Senate could just meet the next day and strip them of their command. What we DID have was kinda the opposite. There were standoffs where the Senate was like "nah, we're not going to meet with that Imperator," and the Imperator would refuse to step down (or cross the pomerium) until they were awarded their triumph. This stalemate would sometimes go on for years, but the Senate would always win out in the end.

I just got a really weird (and somewhat childish) idea. Given that a triumphator's command evaporated the following sunrise, were there ever any instances of triumphators fleeing their private residence at the end of the festivities during the night and exiting the pomerium before sunrise in order to retain their command?

Woke up to this <3
