Caesar in Gaul - Makin' Waves (56 BCE)

This will go up to the public in a day or two, but you all can get your dirty little fingers on it first.

I just figured out that I can "pin" comments under the video on YouTube, so if you want to be the most popular kid in class, leave something good and I'll pin it before this goes public.  It would make me happy if my top comments were from Patreon People  rather than from randos from dark corners of the Internet.

Already started working on the next video in this... "series."  No promises yet, but I think it's going to be a long one.  I have a pretty good idea of where I'm going, and I think people will like it.

Anyway, enjoy!

I read a bunch of primary sources, if possible. You might be able to tell from the videos that I lean heavily on Caesar's Commentaries on the Gallic War. I also tend to go back to Plutarch's Parallel Lives a lot. Suetonius's Life of the Twelve Caesars is also useful. I usually read Dio's Roman History toward the end of the writing process, but the most I ever get from him is 1 or 2 throw-away sentences. Also, I always search through Cicero's letters for tidbits about the specific year I'm covering, but sometimes that's like searching for a needle in a haystack.

Historia Civilis

Wonderful, as always. Btw, Historia Civilis, is there any good History book you recommend? Do you read the original sources to do these videos? Thanks, mate

Oh man, I wasn't even thinking about France when I did that, but when I look at it now, it totally comes off as a French thing. Especially with the blue-ish colouring I picked for the Veneti.

Historia Civilis

Awesome video! I laughed at 8:06. (Btw I have to stop looking up at French jokes).
