I've been playing my 3DS quite a bit as well! Currently checking out Bravely Default and having a great time! It's from the same team behind a few of my favorite JRPGs of recent so not too surprising I like it, really… Was a bit surprised how much StreetPass is used in the game, but I learned how to hack in StreetPasses to bypass that for now. It's not required per se, but it's definitely more than you'd expect. There's an alternative method, but it requires a service that's going down at the end of June, so I'm trying to get through it before then, haha. I bought Bravely Second but accidentally sent it to the wrong address in my excitement… oops. Getting that sorted out atm. I enjoyed the Wii U a lot too! Lots of good memories there. I pretty much have everything I want for Wii U (proud owner of 2 Balance Boards) but I'll keep the current market prices in mind if I'm missing something. I just checked the Steamworks Documentation, and it seems like there is a way to do it with Steam Playtest using a slightly weird method. But it does seem possible, thanks for the heads up!

As far as I know, regarding Steam, I think you can give out beta codes without having a store page up. There's steam games that are fully delisted that don't have store pages anymore but still work for people who own them and work for new users if they redeem a key, so it would probably just function the same as that.
