Start by putting together a nice portfolio website of all your previous works with links to them to try out. Then you can make tweets, reddit posts, whatever social media you have to say "I'm available for work!" Of course, this doesn't always work, but it's a good first step. Streaming game dev work is also a good first step too

Hey Beta! Nice to hear from you again! I had a question for you. I am a game developer with a few games under my belt, and quite a few years of programming experience. Any tips on where to look and how to start doing paid commisions?
