A Closer Look at the Splatoon Video!
Added 2020-01-26 17:01:00 +0000 UTCBelieve it or not, that actually wasn't much scrapped in the Splatoon video, so this time I decided, "why not give a closer look at how the video was created?" So here we go!
First off, the Tofoon box art! It took hours to make this thing for such a small joke lol
Here's a closer look at it:
I recorded the bit in Walmart using it literally the day before the video was finished and sent to the sponsor. Because of that, I forgot to lock focus or even set the video to 60fps π
Had to do a lot of video work to get it to look presentable, but I think it turned out all right!
In order to get the concept to kinda get "drawn in", I did a little trick in photoshop! I recorded my screen while drawing a green circle onto a white background. Add a little chroma key in FCPX to it to remove the green, place it on top of an image, and then it looks like it's being drawn in!
In the last part of the video I talk about the Squid Sisters and show some of their early concept art.
Well that part wasn't planned to be in the video. Originally, it was going to end when I talk about the Octolings.
But just a couple days before release, I realized I hadn't mentioned the Squid Sisters even once during the video, and of course some people would call me out on that lol
So, I did some last minute research, wrote a small script, and recorded it all IRL to save on editing time. I also used that opportunity to talk about some other pieces of concept art I missed because I didn't look at the Art of Splatoon book until I had almost finished editing the video.
