Scrapped "Lair" Script
Added 2019-10-17 19:40:03 +0000 UTCIn the latest episode on PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale, there was a section where I talked a bit about the game Lair. Originally, it was going to be a much longer segment where I discussed how Lair basically destroyed its developer, Factor 5.
....but then I learned from a dev that the Lair stage in PSASBR was fake, so I scrapped that part of the script. It's not long enough to be its own episode, so I wasn't sure what to do with it other than post it here lol
Enjoy!
(fyi *IRL* means that the paragraph below would have been a video of me talking)

But there’s one attempted game crossover in particular that I want to focus on right now: Lair, a Factor 5 produced game, the same team behind Star Wars Rouge Squadron. Remember that game? …Now do you remember this game? If you do, you probably remember it because it was critically panned for its motion controls. It was so badly received that some reviewers were sent guides after they published their reviews with 6 pages dedicated to the game’s controls. The president of Factor 5 even went on record saying that the poor reviews were just because the reviewers didn’t give the motion controls a chance. I honestly don’t know why Sony so desperately tried to get as many games as possible to flaunt the motion controls in this thing. I tried to use it in Motorstorm when it first released and it was completely unplayable.
So with Lair being so… utterly decimated by reviewers and then slammed into the dirt by the public after sending a guide on how to review their game, why on earth 4 years later, would SuperBot want to make a stage in their game featuring the Bridge of Asylia from Lair? Well… I don’t know, but they seemed to really want it, and had the whole idea fleshed out. The stage would feature a huge battle in the background, and in the middle of the match, a Sixaxis controller would appear on the stage, and if any fighter grabs it, they’ll hop on General Atta-Kai’s Blood Dragon, and then the player would physically tilt the controller to burninate the other fighters left on the stage. To be honest, it sounds kind of cool, and the way the leaker described the stage showed that the team was very excited to see it in action. …and then it never happened. I don’t know if Sony just wanted to let Lair die and be forgotten because of the bad publicity, or if Superbot decided to back out for their own reasons. Either way, there is absolutely no reference to Lair in the final version of Playstation All Stars Battle Royale. None at all.

This poor game.. Did you know that Lair was such a PR nightmare that Sony cut off ties with Factor 5 and they haven’t released another game since? They tried to pitch games to Nintendo with the Rouge Squadron Trilogy for Wii and a Pilotwings clone called We Fly, but nothing came of these. Then they got into a deal with Brash Games to develop a game for a sequel to the movie Superman Returns, but that movie eventually got canned, and so did the game. You know what Factor 5 does now? They make the Netflix and Crunchyroll streaming apps for consoles. hm… …..what were we talking about? RIGHT, PlayStation All Stars Battle Royale! Let’s get back to that.
