Thank you for this summary and recap. I had just finished explaining to a friend a lot of what you presented, and then you had so much more! I've been with D&D since the AD&D era black books in the 90s. Their only experience with D&D has been the 5th edition era. So much of the fan base hasn't been with the game long enough to see the history repeat itself.

Thank you so much for filling in all the blanks and confusion over the last years and putting it in terms I readily understand. I am a Free Software Advocate and so I understand well the corporate mindset and machinations against the GPL. It sounds like this OPL1.1 is going to die a death and someone else will fill the void. Maybe Paizo, maybe someone else. Either way as an original TSR boy (I have rare magazines still) I feel much more informed about how we got here and what the issues are now. In the same way Nintendo can't really stop you playing old games you already own even if the hardware is long dead. I don't think Hasbro can kill D&D as it is players and developers who make the content, not faceless corporations. EDIT: Haha, I just found out from another podcast that the new heads of WOTC and Hasbro are ex Microsoft employees. Explains it all.
