I might see this as 'I'm a bit overloaded by all the hardcore rolepaying at the moment, can we take a break and just hit things for session or two?' particularly if a player or group have been through some intense stuff. As you say, maybe they don't want to make complex moral decisions but just like to hang out for a bit, kicking down doors and taking treasure. The goal here would be to provide a venue where that would be appropriate rather than whoelsale changing the tone of the campaign or world. And as much as the 'fluffier' types of roleplayers may feel left out in systems that are very crunchy, combat-focussed, the opposite can become true; the fighter that's been dragged along a pseudo-police procedural for the past two months who wants to flex their muscles now and then.
