Icewind Dale: Travel Times - Part 2: Destruction's Light (Early Access PDF)

Lots of people asked me to supplement the Icewind Dale: Travel Times article with a close look at Chapter 4: Destruction's Light (aka, Chardalyn Dragon v. Ten-Towns). So I did that.

This includes an updated PDF with both parts of Icewind Dale: Travel Times. Also updated maps and spreadsheet with minor corrections.

Looks like it's 6.5 miles down the valley and then 15 miles north through the gorge to Easthaven. Even if we don't count the mountain valley as mountain travel (although we should), that's a 22.5 hour journey by the book (vs. 18.5 via Dougan's Hole) or 15 hours at a fast pace using the recommended guidelines (vs. 10 hours via Dougan's Hole). Using a 1.33 mph value for fast pace, of course, is even worse. Easthaven is destroyed and the dragon leaves by 13.5 hours. So none of these scenarios get them there in time.

If you head due east from Sunblight one mile (measuring from the diamond on the map), there's a valley/gorge leading North out of the mountains, from there it's a straight shot to Easthaven (the town where you find the Duergar map to Sunblight). I would have this route on the Duergars' map. Hit the party with a blizzard encounter where they run into Harpell on the way up to Sunblight...encouraging them to stop and rest before they head into the mountains. That way if they turn back the next day when they see the dragon Harpell can plausibly be there with her three dog sleds when the make it down from the mountains (2 hours). Averaging 1.33 mph heading straight up the gorge to Easthaven the party should make it there about 30-90m before the dragon is finished destroying Easthaven .

I see you fixed the errors that I pointed out in the comments of the original article, but you missed a spot. Cell D3 of the "Travel Times (Dogsled)" page still has the distance divided by 2 instead of 4.
