Power Analysis: Morpher / Cosmikinetic

Born in 1949, Wan Rong was the eldest child in a family of six. He had two brothers and one sister. Upon the beginning of World War Three in early 1969 (LINK - CONTENT: EVENTS - WORLD WAR THREE) Rong was drafted into military service with his two brothers and served until the war’s conclusion in 1971. In 1970, on October 23rd, the middle brother was killed in a conflict with the United States of America over the North Pacific Ocean. The youngest defected in 1971 several months before the war’s conclusion.

Rong continued his service until 1975 when he left and began to traverse the world. It is suspected his Awakening happened during his military service due to the first display of his powers happening in Korea. He first went by the designation ‘Shadow’ until he arrived in the USA where he gained the moniker ‘Grim’. Rong is noted for his aggressiveness and lack of mercy. He targeted anti-evohuman and pro-evohuman movements alike with extreme prejudice. Rong received a Termination Directive in 1977 for mass murder after destroying a military base. The motives behind this attack are suspected to be linked to his youngest brother’s defection.

In 1979, Rong retreated into seclusion, seeking to hide himself from the rest of the world. It wasn’t until Ajax (LINK - CONTENT: P.O.I #02 – [REDACTED] “AJAX”) deployed The Asphodel in 1990, that his location became known. Grim was found in the northern Iceland town of Ólafsfjörður. Ajax engaged Rong after he refused to surrender. The two fought to a stalemate until Ajax decided to retreat after collateral damage became excessive. It was revealed during this encounter that Grim’s power had undergone a dramatic evolution. This prompted a revision of his threat rating.

After the battle, Rong traveled to Cambodia where he underwent a self-proclaimed ‘rebirth’ when discovering Buddhism. Grim remained in the country until 2001 when he returned to his home in China. His reasons for returning remain unknown. It is suspected his motives were family-related. 

(EDITED March 7th, 2003:) Grim has been located within the US in the state of Texas but has yet to take any notable actions.

• Precise control over shadows. Capable of erasing light.
  
  

• Shadows are capable of catastrophic damage. Rapid deterioration of any material that touches it. Grim can control the intensity.
  
  

• Is capable of traversing through his shadows. Perception increases in darker environments. Capable of seeing through his own conjured shadows.
  
  

• Light-based powers are found to be able to hold off the shadows.

• Physical body can wholly or partially transform into a shadow.
  
  

• Shadow takes the form of a smoke cloud and is capable of flight. State renders Grim impervious to all forms of physical, psychic, and kinetic damage.
  
  

• While transformed he is ‘obscured’ from many mentalist powers. This combined with him always being transformed under his skin, has led to great difficulty in obtaining accurate information.
  
  

• No longer capable of controlling external shadows.
  
  

• Light remains a notable weakness and is still capable of holding him at bay.

“Humanity has always created monsters, it’s just now they can have more power. Give it time and we will see another like him. Many will come and go.”

“Grim’s military experience has kept him alive, helped him navigate the world.”

“Naturally.”

“I’m curious about the nature of powers. They evolve over time, do they not?”

“It varies.”

“Time seems to be the common factor. Gaea, The Mountain, Foresight. Now Grim. Perhaps… the age of the evohuman correlates. It would suggest a biological component.”

“Doubtful, it is likely another factor. It’s just that the longer you live, the more likely you are to encounter it. If there’s a biological component, I fail to see how we wouldn’t have found it by now. We are capable of analyzing the human body completely.”

“Is that so?”

“Yes.”

“I disagree. I believe the saying is ‘two-dimensional.’ However, in this case I believe you are thinking too third-dimensionally. Think outside what you believe to be possible. Imagine for a moment that there is something there that humans are not capable of perceiving.”

“You think our power operates outside three dimensional space?”

“I cannot say for sure. It is only a theory. It could very well be some other type of phenomenon that we cannot currently detect, but Grim’s evolution is suspected to have happened during time in self-imposed isolation. Gaea’s evolution came shortly before the creation of New Elpis, as did The Mountain’s. Foresight’s evolution… well, I have not looked into that file yet but I suspect I’ll see something similar.”

“I don’t understand.”

“I apologize but I cannot give you a concrete answer. The pool of data is too small to draw a definitive conclusion, but there is a pattern.”

“If you find it, let me know.”

“I intend to.”
