Swordfish - First Concept and Now

I thought it might be fun to redraw the very first design I made of Swordfish. They were very crude and chaotic doodles, and there isn't anything to share that looks nice enough, but he was still fairly cute! He looked a bit more unsettled and the color palette was less saturated.

The main changes:

1) Colors are soooo much more saturated now, especially the main blue tint of his scales.

2) The head fins only have 3 segments now. No real reason for changing them then, it just happened. I do think the current design allows for more expressions and emotions to display though!

3) He had two rows of tail fins before and no fins on the neck! Now he has one row on the neck and one on the tail.

4) Limb stripes no longer move down the arms-legs. This was a recent change with the latest comic that actually went unnoticed! I felt like the design would be more readable this way.

I would have made one of Hopper too, but she has been the same since the beginning actually! Well, there is a sliiight hue change but it's so subtle that nobody could tell anyway, including me if I didn't color-pick her old art. She was born perfect!
