Updated sha-Arthan Player's Guide

Work continues on The Secrets of sha-Arthan – slowly, admittedly, but progress is being made. I wanted to share a little of that here for the benefit of my patrons. An expanded and updated version of the Player's Guide is available here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1AxWNEkovYw9hY0E6KNuJ-h4k_kCk8PGK/view?usp=sharing

This version is not yet complete, but it contains about 90% of what I want to include in the working draft. I plan to follow this up with an expanded and updated version of the magic rules before the end of this month and possibly a glimpse at the section detailing some of the creatures and wildlife of sha-Arthan. With those done, the most important rules sections will be done and I'll be able to devote more time to the setting material that I suspect will be the most interesting sections of the book.

More in a few days.

Comments

Thank you for these questions and comments. I will try to get to them soon, along with the updated magic rules. As I said earlier, this draft is not complete and there are many areas that need expansion/clarification. Pointing some of them out is very helpful to me.

When I tried generating a character, these where the uncertainties I encountered. Questions: Movement: Is there a standard movement for humans, if so, list it in character generation. Will movement be modified by Deftness score, and/or armor worn? Encumbrance; Vigor seems to modify encumbrance limits but the modification is not explained beyond the character can carry the encumbrance value equal to their Vigor without penalty. In my opinion the encumbrance values for equipment are high. Dagger or tinder box should be negligible. Also the backpack seems to assume it is full while the water-skin seems to assume it is empty. I appreciate that you want to keep it simple but when a dagger’s burden is equal to a spear and half the burden of a suit of armor it needs to get more defined. IMHO. Skills: A list of skills should be included and a system of determining what skills a character may start with is essential. Character age: This may not be important but character definition adds depth to the roll playing experience. A starting age could be established and years added for the time it takes to accumulate the characters class. Defense rating: I assumed that the bonus given by Deftness should be applied to unarmored DR. I also assume if surprised or unaware the Deftness bonus would not be applied.

I generated a character to try out the system, character sheet attached.
