Side note: Shooting events?

For many years, starting in about 2013, I would host shooting events. Not just educational workshops, but events where I would provide a model roster, and a nice location, and photographers could sign up. It was a fun service, and I did countless and varied events. I'm actually doing more this year, after barely doing any for probably 4 years? I've occasionally done one a year maybe I guess, but anyhow, I put two together recently, one in Houston, and one in Austin, and they completely sold out! I admit, I put together a pretty good event, and I have a lot of great resources – but my question is, should I do more events?

Here's some throwbacks with my friend Lindsey, who is actually going to come out to my Austin event on July 12. Haven't seen her in a couple of years, so that'll be fun.

Hey, I really appreciate this — because honestly, what you described is exactly the kind of workshop I’ve been building for years. Structured learning, guided shooting time, and space to talk through process, lighting, direction, editing — all of it. I’ve always aimed to make my workshops about more than just “come shoot a model” — they’re meant to dig into the *why* behind the images, not just the *how*. If that sounds like your vibe, I’d definitely love to have you at a future one....

I love events that are centered around training. An ideal event for me would include: lighting design that shows how the light affects the mood of an image (not just a lighting diagram to copy), how to work with a model to get the best facial expressions, posing tips, and editing workflows. I would love for the first half of the day to be more of a teaching session and the second half to be workshop where each photographer can work with a model. Then have everyone edit the photos and do a critique on the last day.
