Daily Update: Learning Things
Added 2018-06-15 04:53:02 +0000 UTCIt feels like I learn so much from every story I write for this show. It's almost never just like, sit down for five hours and pump out a short story. These things put me through the ringer. And I'm glad. I really think I'm beginning to develop as a writer.
This short story, for instance. The main thing I'm picking up right now is complexity of context. For a short story, you really have to budget that stuff. The easier the audience can orient themselves within your setting (not just location, but time, social climate, etc., etc.), the more time you can spend addressing the conflict/developing the characters. In a short story, having a strong grasp of your temporal assets is crucial. It's something I haven't been doing very well before now, and something I hope to improve on.
Now that I'm blabbering about all of this, I'm thinking it could actually make a pretty good conversational piece for a think tank session... I'll write it down, and we'll see if it makes it into the next one! For now, I've got a sneak peek to share and a short story to (almost) finish.
