Rewards Update: $10 Reward Changes
Added 2018-05-27 00:52:58 +0000 UTCWell, this is unwelcome. At least there's a silver lining?
What's Happening
As fate would have it, there's a character limit on Youtube's description boxes, which we failed to account for when we first came up with all our tier rewards for Patreon. With only 5,000 characters at our disposal, there's no way we'll be able to continue adding patron names to our video descriptions.
We considered replacing this with a patron name roll during the regular patreon plug at the end of each video, but we realized we also wouldn't be able to fit that many names on screen with any level of readability within the timeframe of a typical plug. We could potentially do a roll that fills the screen, but that's something we're deliberating right now. So that kind of goes out the window until we find a visual compromise. We're also considering moving the list to the pinned comment of each video on Youtube, which has a nice, fat, 10,000-character limit. The only problem with this is that... well, it frankly feels very cheap to us. "Your name will be mentioned in a youtube comment" feels like a pretty pathetic reward to Chloe and I. But! If any of your $10-$25 patrons feel differently, this is the place to let us know!
For the time being though, we're bumping the $10 reward tier back down to only one reward like the rest of them, which is access to our Discord think tank sessions. Sorry to catch you guys off guard. Reducing the number of rewards you get for supporting us is the last thing we ever want to do. You deserve everything.
To that end, hopefully what I'm about to tell you will help, just a little?
The Silver Lining
We've been hinting at this for a long time. If you frequent the Discord server, you might have already seen the signs. Think Tank sessions are about to change.
The biggest problem we've had with our think tank since we created it is the finagling sessions to align with video production, which results in insanely disparately-spaced sessions that no one can reasonably predict, roughly 1-2 months apart each. To us that's... frankly pitiful. This is a change we've needed to make for a long time, and we're excited to finally be making it.
Starting with our Worldbuilding Series (and perhaps with some trial sessions beforehand as well), we will be hosting bi-weekly audio think tank sessions. Essentially, we'll be hosting the think tanks as per usual, but on a predictable schedule, and Chloe and I will be talking to all of you with our actual voices while you type. Think of it like an interactive podcast. We'll very likely be giving you some homework before the sessions (stuff to think about) so we can all come to them with something to discuss.
So, those are the two big forthcoming changes to the $10 reward tier. Hopefully the sooped-up think tank sessions will make up for the (with any luck temporary) loss of the get-your-name-in-the-description reward.
That's all for now. Thanks for understanding!
