Daily Update: Bearings
Added 2018-05-01 03:02:25 +0000 UTCToday was interesting. Sometimes real productivity just feels like nothing at all.
Fun stuff first, though.
This morning I had my second real meeting with Felipe. We spoke about the style guide I created to teach him how to make taleoids, and the exercises we had him do to get familiar with our style. When we first received his initial attempt, I was a little worried. The taleoids were really, really adorable, and in a vacuum, better than the ones I usually draw. But they weren't the same. And often, that's all right. If you constrain an artist too tightly, the only hands you really end up tying are your own. But this is the identity of the show we're talking about, and I'm not quite ready to change that. So... the art looked great, but I was initially very concerned about how things were going to unfold.
However, after some discussion with Chloe, She convinced me that all of his minor stylistic differences would be pretty easy to address if I could have an extended conversation with him about it. Today we gave it a shot. When I asked him how he felt about the work, his response was something to the effect of "You know... it was fun, but I found it really difficult to kind of... stay in line with your style and add something of my own?"
What a relief to both of us that I wasn't looking for that after all.
We're at a point now where all we have left is to see is the final product in the flesh. Once we have that, we'll be ready to set him up with some actual work for the show itself.
Apart from that, the day was mostly scanning notes, figuring out what will fit into an outline, and then scribbling those bits out in the right order. There's still a lot of drafting work to do (as you can probably tell by the poll), but we should be there by tomorrow evening.
I've been sitting here pounding this out while Chloe and her mom race around, putting together left-overs for the two of us to take home. I think I'll close the computer now and complicate the task for them.
Wish me great luck. <3
