I posted a few days ago about Patreon's upcoming processing fee change—how they were planning to shift the burden of payment from the creator to the patron, and how that has a severe impact on very low-tier patrons. We were attempting to make the most of a fairly undesirable and inevitable change. At the time, Patreon seemed utterly fixed on this course.
Now... not so much.
Turns out they've decided not to roll out the processing fees change after all. The public outcry was too loud for them not to hear it, and despite their occasional issues with PR management, Patreon is a good company with good intentions at its heart. But that's not all!
We've actually got another pay change to announce, this time for our patreon in particular. It's a fairly simple change, but relevant nonetheless. Starting January 1st, we will begin charging new patrons up front. We aren't ready to leak what's in the box yet, but we want to be sure people who are getting access to it deserve access to it. We like to give our patrons the benefit of the doubt, but right now it would be entirely possible for someone to create their pledge, get their fill of our patron-only content, then cancel their pledge before the pay period. So that's an interesting change, but it shouldn't effect most of you.
