The Comic: Dolmistaska

The years is 199X. This is how people in the 80s thought the future would be like (cassette futurism). Canada is under U.S. control and soldiers patrol every major city. One of them is the fictional Canadian “city” of Dolmistaska, Quebec. It is in fact several municipalities that each had a mall, but over a few decades, the insanely rich owner, bought land, expelled inhabitants and built a monstrous mall that took over entire towns. The population, with nowhere to go due to multiple economic and political factors, are mostly stuck living in the abandoned parts of a mall that never renovates, but keeps on building upon itself. One of these people is PM, a genderless anthropomorphic slob living off their friend lucky enough to have a full time job. That friend is named Corriveau, a Goth cat with a doll-making and dark magic hobby. Around them is a gang-like militia trying to take control of the mall. The gang, often called The Goalies, are decked in bulletproof hockey gear wanting to reclaim their towns. The Shop Owners, who can’t keep up with the large margin the mall owner is taking each week and are working behind curtains, striking deals with whatever group they think would be the best. And Guillaume Faucher, the mall owner, balancing collaboration with the Americans, keeping the mall profitable and draining as much money as possible into oversea bank accounts for himself. He is protected by Mall Cops in riot gear forming a sizeable mercenary army. Last but not least is the US army stationed nearby, often patrolling or simply shopping in the mall on their time off, whom all look like 80s action movie star soldiers (Rambo, predator, etc). 

About PM and Corriveau: They’re both anthros living in a mostly human world, though they’re not anthro for the same reasons. PM is the result of gene splicing between a human and a North African sand cat. Mother is volunteer scientist. Father is intelligent animal able of speech. Corriveau was born human and became a cat through dark magic. PM was never given much of a real education and is mostly illiterate. Corriveau graduated High school and has a good resume, making it a lot easier to score jobs.
