Tekken 8 Questions

With Tekken 8 coming right around the corner in January, we're looking to chat with the team sometime before launch. But, let's just say our Tekken knowledge is a bit rusty. We want to be sure to get the details on what you want to know, so we're giving you the chance to submit your questions about the game that may be featured in our interview. Have any burning Tekken inquiries? Now's your chance to ask in the comments below.

There has been some complaints within the community that newer Tekken characters/moves are moving away from more traditional martial arts/styles shifting the balance of the Tekken roster to more "unrealistic" fighting styles. Are the Tekken team aware of these complaints? Do they think the complaints are fair? Is this a conscious decision when designing new characters?

Tekken Ball is actually back!

Here's a silly one: Do they have concepts for all of Heihachi's children or are they going to be conceptualized one or two at a time as the series goes on?

What happens if Yoshimitsu's blade hits a lightsaber?

Oh man, I've been a huge fan since Tekken 2 and even used to enter tournaments and take part in the competitive scene back in the Tekken 5 days. Feel free to take as many or as few of my questions as you see fit! 1) Many fans (myself included) enjoy the ability to customise character's outfits and appearances, however you have introduced increasingly more and more elaborate items and customisation options with each entry, which in some cases can be quite distracting and/or lead to characters losing the visual identity of their original designs. How do you decide where to draw the line in terms of how much you allow players to customise their characters? And have you considered adding an option to allow players to hide their opponents customisations during online play for those who want a more "pure" experience? 2) Most of the updated designs for Tekken 8 have been well received, and deservedly so. Some, however, have proven to be a bit more divisive, eg. Paul's hair, Lee's high-tech battle-suit, certain character's faces. How much attention do you pay to fan reception of your updated designs? How does it make you feel when a new design (or character for that matter) proves to be controversial? And have you ever been tempted to go back and make adjustments to a design based on feedback form the community? 3) Historically, Tekken did a pretty great job of being deep and rewarding enough to satisfy competitive players whilst remaining intuitive and approachable enough for beginners to pick up and start having fun almost immediately. How much of a priority has it been to maintain that balance? And how well do you feel you have been able to achieve it with ever-expanding movesets and new systems and mechanics being introduced with each new game? 4) DLC characters and continued support are important for the long-term health of a fighting game these days, however as the DLC roster grows this can make for an increasingly steep barrier of entry for late adopters (at the time of writing this, it would cost just shy of $100 to purchase all the DLC characters for Tekken 7 assuming no discounts). Do you see this as a problem? If so, do you have any solutions in mind when it comes to your DLC plans for Tekken 8? 5) Where's the hell's Eddy!? The dude's a freaking icon and one of the first characters that comes to mind when most people think of Tekken! Thanks & Love & Respect!

Why'd you have to kill Heihachi? The man's an icon, the most recognizable face in Tekken, I'd argue. I'm sad.

This is great! Now for the questions: - Will we have guest dlc characters, similar to Tekken 7? - Is Reina an "official" Mishima, in the sense that she is proud to be of this lineage, or is she more like Lars? - Has the rise of other fighting games and the healthy competition/rivalry with Street Fighter, made the Tekken Series better in any way? Niice, OK here we go: 1) Will we see the return of any special modes like Tekken Force (CHICKEN!!), Tekken Ball, or Tekken Bowling? These were some of my fav little extras 2) Will it be possible to unlock or recreate any classic costumes? It would be great to see a return of costumes from the Tekken 2/3 era, especially with returning classics like Jun Kazama finally playable once more. 4) Will there be a possibility of a Tag feature? (Or is there a possible Tekken Tag 3 on the backburner?) 3) Gon WHEN? Thanks, have fun with the interview Allies.

Quick questions. What’s the current input lag/latency from the most current build of the game? Will the game reduce latency, on consoles, while playing on 120HZ capable TVs? I know the game is still in development and it’s not final, but I hope you can provide some numbers because when playing online via cross-play, it matters. I’ll get the game on PS5, but it would be discouraging if the PS5 version has 3 more milliseconds of lag than PC. Thanks. When is Julia coming?

What improvements have been made to the single player experience/ offline modes in 8 compared to 7? More specifically besides a story mode that has been somewhat showed off already will they be bringing back the traditional arcade mode where you have an x amount of fights before a boss fight then a cutscene ending? 7 didn't have this and I was missing that greatly from previous entries in the series.

My brother and I have been huge Tekken Fans since Tekken 2, so I have a few that I could think of. 1) What goes in to deciding which characters to bring forward to a new entry and if/when to change up their movesets? 2) What kind of feedback did you take from the Betas to make changes to the planned final game? And was there anything that you discovered from the beta tests that surprised you? 3) When a character uses real world martial arts, how much input do you get from someone who is proficient in that particular style when developing a character's moves / animations? 4) In a perfect world, who would be a dream Guest character you would love to welcome in to the Tekken roster? 5) Tekken has had some iconic character music in the past, how much back and forth is there when working on a character design, their stage, and their music? Thanks!
