Hey Allies Got a simple game for you guys, can you name the critically acclaimed game based on the negative steam review? I’ve picked 3 steam reviews and included review from Easy Allies or PC gamer to help. 1 Point for guessing the game and also 1 bonus point for who guessed closest to the PC Metacritic score. Good luck. Love and Respect Robert Lee Game 1 1st review: “I had a 95% chance to hit the recommend button.” 2nd review: “Even when I have 80% chance to hit the target I miss more often than hit. Rigged” 3rd Review “...I'm done. While I was looking forward to the sequal this game apparantly is designed to break you before you even get out of the tutorial stage. It was clearly designed for those who have played Enemy Unknown on Classic and have their game down to a science. It is VERY newcomer unfriendly.” PC Gamer 94/100 “Exceptionally tough, rewarding strategy and a masterful reworking of the [BLANK] formula. Well play this forever. My personal take: One of the best turned based tactics games I’ve ever played Answer: X-Com 2 (Meta Score 88) Game 2 Review 1: “...am in minority here and I know it. I'm a huge cRPG fan and this is pretty much only cRPG that I did not like at ALL. The armor and magic armor system is so bad imo, there are barely any RPG options when it comes to building characters AND the story seemed flat to me.” Review 2: “Just incredibly confusing if you don't have experience with these types of games. I looked up a guide after about 4 hours of fumbling around so that I could progress and justify my purchase but then the game went from a limitless sandbox with too much freedom to find any sort of direction, to a recipe book in which the joy of discovery was set aside just to feel any semblance of progress.” Review 3: “This game is honestly just annoying to play. In theory, it's a great game. Great visuals, solid story telling, stellar voice acting, well thought out rules and mechanics, strategy, etc. 30 hours and I've never continued to play after getting to, and even after leaving Fort Joy. This game frustrates or inconveniences me out of any desire to play it.” Easy Allies Review: 9.5 “[Blank] is an incredibly rich RPG that not only builds a world filled with choice, but makes you care deeply about those decisions.” My personal take: The best game I’ve played from this developer before this year. Answer: Divinity Original Sin 2 (Meta Score 95) Game 3 Review 1: “This game is not for all tastes. It came highly recommended, and is well-made, but I'm not really its audience. You see, I love CRPGs and adventure games. What I do NOT love is slogging through pages upon page upon pages of text. Absorbing volumes of context and history with nothing going on-screen is not my idea of fun. It's boring. Yes, story is important to a good game, but I tuned out after an hour in and reading endless dialogue trees. It was more work than fun. If I want to read a novel, I'll read a novel.” Review 2: “It's just a game based on dice rolls and fail checks. Pass a check something appears or good happens. Fail a check. Opps guess that option is gone to bad for you. Have fun running around trying to figure out how to get around it. If there is even a way to get around it. You have to pass certain checks in order to progress. This is a problem. The dice numbers for fail and pass are weird and half the time don't make much sense” Review 3 “......Progress in this game is almost 100% via dialogue. Most of this dialogue, especially in the beginning, is world building. Tedious information about social, economic and political structures of Revachol. I now know more about Revachol than I do about my hometown. The rest of the dialogue occurs within your mind. This was much more enjoyable. This was where the character building and role-playing takes place, and the options are very entertaining..... I cannot recommend this game to the average gamer. I repeat, this game is VERY niche. Personally, I would get more satisfaction from reading a good book..” (No Easy Allies Review?) PC Gamer 92/100 “An irresponsibly deep detective RPG that lets you be any kind of detective you want. Even a bad one” My personal take “A lot of reading but it’s very absorbing. Almost like a click and point adventure game with stat upgrades and dice rolls. One of the best surprises of 2019” Answer: Disco Elysium (Meta Score 97) Game 4 Review 1: ““[Blank] isn't the best game ever made it suffers from pacing issues, intentional level design focus on puzzling, and lack of multiple pathways to complete a mission (it's linear after-all)” Review 2: “All I can say is that this game is not for everyone. I jumped in expecting a great game mostly due to the hundreds of game reviewers saying it was the greatest game of all time. I was highly disappointed, boring gunplay that becomes highly repetitive, pretty bland story, annoying enemies, and just a boring atmosphere. The physics engine is highly outdated and it makes many sequences incredibly frustrating. This game may have been something great but years later it really isnt that special anymore.” Review 3: “no 3 yet. im suing [developer] for false advertising” PC Gamer 96/100 “This is the one unmissable game. Its time to get that cutting-edge PC system. Sell your grandmother, remortgage the cat, do whatever you have to do. Just dont miss out.” My Personal take: I’ve never finished this game but have played the incredible VR prequel of this game. Answer: Half Life 2 (Meta Score 96) Game 5 Review 1: “Developers lied about exploration too. Remember when they said "If you see it, you can go there"? Well... You can't. "No invisible walls" ring a bell? False too. Whilst they're not invisible walls, if you stray too far from the enclosed map, you get a warning that you've "reach the world's end" and must "turn back". If you fail to turn back, the map opens up and you must fast travel somewhere.” Review 2: “This game made me realize you don't have to like every critically acclaimed game. It's undeniable that it's very well made, I just didn't find it fun. This game is story first and game second, and clunky combat was definitely an after thought in the development process. You may like it, but just know what you're getting into before purchasing.” Review 3 “...I find it boring. Once you realise that every mission is rinse and repeat the same thing, it just feels like a drag. "Go fetch this item" or "Go kill this person/monster". The story reasons behind it always feel shallow, a cheap justification to keep the player going. You never feel invested in the reasons. Every mission is exactly the same mission, with different skin. It's basically grand theft auto with medieval skin. If you've played enough games like that, this just feels as extremely repetitive..... Any scene with dandelion is so cringe and idiotic that it completely broke immersion from what little story build up there was” Gametrailers 9.8 “[Blank] is a thoughtful, diverse, and frequently awe-inspiring adventure. Its stories are deep and satisfying, unafraid to touch on themes of personal character, presenting players with choices and consequences that aren’t about turning into a hero or a villain. In the end, it’s quite simply one of the best RPGs ever made.” My Personal take” Combat didn’t bother me as much as most people, lost countless hours to the card mini game” Answer: The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt (Meta Score 93) Game 6 Review 1: “....the humor of the game relies too much on meme-like humor. This already completely dates the game as memes come and go fairly quickly on the internet. In 5-10 years the humor will most likely be pretty unenjoyable because it relies too much on current-day meme humor/culture to be funny instead of... actually being funny. So many people praised it for its comedy, but I generally found myself getting annoyed at all the "jokes". I haven't really seen many smart jokes that were actually genuinely funny and the ones I did see were too few and far between.” Review 2: “flowery is a very rude person only play game if you have no soul otherwise your soul will be pain” Review 3: “Reasons you may love / hate this game: Bullet hell gameplay, Bone puns and fart jokes, 16-bit art style and chiptune soundtrack 6 hours of gameplay” PC Gamer 91/100 “A hilarious JRPG romp with far more than laughs on its side” Answer: Undertale (Meta Score 93)

Hey Allies I have a game submission: Name of the Game: "Do you feel old yet? Part II Navelgaze edition" You have to guess which game was released in the year of this event. Hello Allies, Tears of the Kingdom is on my ever growing list of backlog games among this cataclysmic wave of content. However, it seems to me that TOTK is not nearly as hyped as Breath of the Wild. Is this attributed to it not being as good as BOTW or just because it has had to share the limelight with all these other massive 2023 games, or maybe it is just as hyped, and I have just not being hearing it. Thoughts? L&R, Cody

Hi Allies! Wrapping up act 2 in BG3 it has led to an internal struggle debating reloading saves. For me personally, I try to avoid reloading to change outcomes of conversations. But, when i lock myself out of quests entirely without realizing it would happen, that is where I feel a little less guilty. Was curious your thoughts on reloading save files in games like baulders gate where there is so much choice and ripple effects on the story?

Hello Allies, Instead of having GOTY this year, why not have a YOTG. Because 2023 is Year of the Games. 1998 gets thrown around a lot for best year in gaming. My personal favourite is 2017 with games like RE7, Cuphead, Sonic Mania the Switch launch year and so many others. What are some of yours? Love and Respect

Hey allies, We all have a number of game series that haven't seen an entry in a long time, that we want to see make a comeback. Over the years we have seen dormant franchises comeback in a number of ways, some return with exactly what we wanted (Shenmue 3), others come back in a weird, but maybe good way (F-Zero 99 or Half-Life Alyx) or a bad way (Nuts & Bolts), others go the remake route (Tony Hawk 1+2). My question is, for the franchises you most want to return if you had to pick right now, which project would you prefer be greenlit? A brand new game, that could vary in terms of quality or even what the game actually is (you may get the sequel you dreamed of, you may get a F2P Mobile game, or just a weird but still good spin off) Or a solid remake one of the best games in the franchise. Keep in mind, the success of either may dictate what happens with this franchise going forward.

Hey Allies! First time interacting through Patreon. It’s been a long-time coming, but I finally decided to get a PlayStation 5! My question is: what to play? My first dip into this gen is with Final Fantasy 16, and I’m loving it so far. What are your 5 must-play games on the PS5, exclusive or not. I have played most of the PS4 cross-gen games such as RE4, but haven’t touched Ragnorok yet. Give me some gamez guys and gals. As always, L&R.

Hi Allies, Last week you guys talked about and suggested spooky games to play in October for over 10 minutes, and shockingly, Resident Evil got no recommendation from any of the Allies. So in order to rectify this cardinal sin, I decided to finally play through the Code Veronica X for the very first time. Naaah, I'm just kidding about the cardinal sin part xD But I did really play through Code Veronica X this past week and had a blast with it. And more importantly, in doing so, now I've finally played through all the mainline Resident Evil games*. So my question to the panel is this: Are there any franchises that you really enjoy and have played through most of the entries, but still have that one or two games in them that you want to eventually get through? Thank you for picking my submission if you do. Love & Respect, Cheers. *Classic RE2 being the sole exception. Maybe one day Capcom will port that game to modern consoles and I can play it :(

Hey, Allies. Just wanted to play a little devil's advocate. I know price increases are all boo, hiss. Especially for PS Plus. Looking at since getting Extra/Premium (I forget which one I have). I only buy one or two PS games a year now. Significantly less than what I used to. I find myself waiting for it to just come to Plus. Even with the increase, saving so much money! Why should I stop with this increase? (Yes, there is a lot more they can still do to entice. Still, saving money.)

Hello everyone! What is your stance on checkpointing, and for multi-part/stage boss fights in particular? I ask because this past Sunday, I replayed Ghostrunner to prep for the coming sequel, and there's a boss fight that is by far the most aggravating segment of the game. It's in four parts, each by having to parry attacks to get an opening to get a swing or two in. However, if you fail the required pixel-perfect timing in ANY segment, you must start the fight over from the beginning, having to repeat the same patterns over and over, thus ruining the fun pretty quickly. As such, I feel having a checkpoint for depleting each segment of health would rectify the issue (especially considering this checkpointing is present elsewhere throughout the game in similar moments). In your opinion, what makes a checkpoint system good or bad? Thanks for taking this submission if you do and stay Easy fellow Allies!
