My Little Mǎ Xiū / Matt Exploration

I wanted to explore Matt's culture and race, I never imagined him as white but POC. I decided to focus on his Chinese heritage. Matt is Chinese and his family immigrated to America when he was a newborn. Living in a small rural town of around 1,300 people primarily white he felt a bit out of place with his identity and still does in his current age. Matt family owns a popular store in town selling everyday items and some groceries, his family wants him to take up the business as I mentioned in pervious posts but Matt rather become a rockstar due to his admiration of Jasper own ambitions. Jasper and Matt were friends since they they were babies and grew up together. As they got older Matt's parents didnt really approve of their friendship because they felt Jasper was making Matt loose track on his studies and wanted him to focus on more realistic goals for his future. 

Matt has three younger brothers, all smart, popular and athletic. They contribute to the success of the store and the school they attend, his parents and his family are respected in the community.  Matt feel lost in his own identity, Matt would get into allot of fight s at school not just because he was protecting Jasper but because of his own self worth. 

Im going to continue exploring Matt and ah idk I think he looks super cute! his brothers rough house allot and they tend to over power Matt. Matt is short for Mathew which is the English name his family gave  him when they immigrated to America. They chose the name Matthew because in Chinese its translated as 马修 (mǎ xiū} which means Shy Horse. 

Since Matt doesnt say much and tends to just go with the flow and doesnt enjoy attracting to much attention to himself I thought it was funny that his name actually matches his personality. Thanks to my friend Hino who has been helping me out! 

I like to imagine Matt going with his family to China every year for the New Years and constantly being surrounded by his aunties and his grandparents who call him their little mǎ xiū and feed him oranges and pats him on the head while asking him if he has a girlfriend or ever plans to marry because they know a lovely girl who lives not to far from them that is perfect for him.
