Matt

Matt is one of Jasper's childhood friend, they do everything together, they knew each other since they were babies. A small town in rural PA means the entire community knows everyone and everything. Matt enjoys Jasper's passion of music, they would listen to cassette tapes and go to concerts, they actually went to see Nirvana play and Jasper knew at that moment he needed to get into the rock scene and the only way he would is if Matt was his drummer, 

The thing about Matt is that he has a crush on Jasper, a huge one. Matt doesnt say much he tends to keep quiet allot so when he does speak it really speaks volumes. haha. Matt is kind and patient and is honestly a "what if" Leon was never in the picture. Matt doesnt know if Jasper is into men and vis versa. A small town in the 90s has pushed Matt intentions to ever letting anyone know he is gay for the fear of rejection and being shunned by his community and friends and family. 

At one point the band goes on hiatus because the lack of members, Matt not going to college meant he had to work at his family corner store business leaving Jasper indecisive about his own future. Matt own feelings doesnt come to light until later in the AU once they finally make a name for themselves in the under ground scene. However that would be at a time that Jasper is heart broken and refuses to accept his advances with the fear of losing a friend and a band member. Remember, Jasper can't have the band without Matt because he is his drummer and he refuses to replace him. Matt knew about this but he eventually let it slip when they were drunk together. 

I believe if things turned out the way Matt wanted he would of had a simpler life with Jasper, sure they have to hide their sexuality but they would of been happy regardless, Matt is safe, Matt is comfort but for Jasper his feelings for Leon is passionate and raw, He knew, if Leon asked for him back he would take him hence why he rejects Matt, He couldn't use Matt as a rebound he cared to much for him to hurt him in anyway. ultimately refusing to be vulnerable was his main goal

Jasper cares deeply for his friends but even he doesnt speak openly about his sexuality not even to those he is close with including Matt. Lili finds out eventually but it really took allot for Jasper to say anything to her. Jasper's father knows but that was by accident and even Jasper doesnt know that his own father does.
