An exciting new preservation project with the creators of Myst!
Added 2023-07-03 20:50:39 +0000 UTCJust announced at Mysterium this weekend -- thank you for supporting The Video Game History Foundation and making this possible!
The Video Game History Foundation is working with Cyan, creators of the Myst series, to digitize over 100 hours of never-before-seen footage spanning hundreds of tapes!
We’ve made great headway into the project already, and are excited to make the collection viewable later this year! Here’s what you can expect:
- Over 100 hours of footage from the making of the Myst series, including…
- Behind the scenes at Cyan during the development of Riven
- Early concept videos for Uru
- Hours of never-before-seen interviews with Cyan developers, including Rand Miller, Robyn Miller, Richard Vander Wende, and Richard A. Watson
The video is just a tiny sneak peek, but we're excited to share more as the project develops!

"Kelsey drove the car-load of tapes (all 300 miles) from Spokane to Seattle to the media processor." Y'know... at some point or other in our lives we must all become Jason Scott. That bit from Phil "Game ephemera is simultaneously Trade Secret, not for your eyes and also instantly disposable." really highlighted how rare an archive like Cyan's is to last to today, especially for an indie shop like theirs. Like, Will Wright lost all of his SimCity and Bungling Bay stuff in a fire.
