A virtual tour of our pop-up museum!

In case you missed it: VGHF mega-volunteer Kelsey Lewin put together this extensive virtual tour of our "Staying With Power" exhibit from last October's Portland Retro Gaming Expo.

This was a really major endeavor for us. I could spend a long time going through the design philosophies, the setup, etc., but Kelsey already did that for me in the video!

But I do want to briefly explain the heart of this exhibit. We wanted to rewrite the traditional narrative of the Nintendo Entertainment System, and show that the system's lifespan extended way beyond its official support drying up around 1995. In fact, if you take a more global view and ignore whether or not a game is "official" for the system, you come to realize that the commercial life for software on this system never, ever stopped. In fact, there have been new commercial games written for NES spec every year since 1983, which I believe is wholly unique among dedicated video game systems (and perhaps even computers, though I'm sure someone could substantiate a new C64 game or two hiding in obscure places).

Hope everyone had a great holiday and an even greater new year! We've got some really amazing plans for 2019 that I can't wait to share with you once we've got all the pieces lined up. Thanks as always for your support, we really couldn't do any of this without you.

This was fantastic. Wish I could have seen it in person.
