A little note about money

Hi again. I thought I'd do a little backer-only post showing you where your generous donations to the VGHF have gone!

After fees, we've taken home an amazing $9,964.23 since launching at the end of February, which is...kind of overwhelming looking at it now. You all have donated nearly TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS to help us save video game history. You're amazing.

Here's a pretty basic rundown of how that money has been spent:

$5,872.25: The Game Informer Project. I know that sounds like a lot, but we're talking travel, room, and rental car over two lengthy trips, sometimes for two people, plus about $2,200 in equipment costs (which we now get to use for other projects in the future!).

$148: This is what we've pledged to other Patreon accounts, almost all of which are preserving video game history in their own right. Honestly I wish it we could give more. I'd love to get us to the point where we're a "foundation" by the traditional definition, and we're funding projects that speak to our goals.

$1,350.06: Miscellaneous costs. This is kind of spread among our GDC showing (equipment, parking and literature), some library acquisitions, web hosting, and some streaming equipment (did I mention we're going to be streaming soon?)

$2,593.92: This is what we currently have in the bank, unspent.

You may notice that no money has been allocated to employees yet - and by that, I mean me. We've decided I won't be taking on a salary until we start raising more money which, frankly, hasn't really been our focus yet beyond our initial push way back in February. As far as the VGHF is concerned, I'm still doing volunteer work. I've been able to pick up plenty of side work in game dev, which is good and bad - good in that I can dedicate all of our donations to our actual needs, but bad in the sense that I haven't been able to dedicate all of my time and brain to the work.

But I'm in a really healthy place right now financially, and I'm just wrapping up a major work project, so I should be able to dedicate my time a lot more to the preservation work going forward.

Comments

I'm glad you called out taking a salary. That is a VERY important part of what I personally am funding here. Glad it's at least on the roadmap.
