It’s been a long time since I’ve had to put this much effort into a set. There were a lot of setbacks and issues that cropped up during my time with it. But I pushed through and came out the other side.
Going into the project, I had no idea what kind of set I wanted to do. I had the location of the PieZ restaurant that I wanted to use, so I had to build a story around that. Which proved to be a challenge. Truth be told, it wasn’t really until image 60 where I had a firm vision of the set in my head. Up until that point I was kinda winging it with nothing more than a rough idea of what the set would be.
Although it was a headache to set up and put back my progress by a few days, adding in the strap on was a fantastic idea. It’s something I wanted to do before, but just couldn’t figure out how to get the strap on the model to move with the character’s limbs. Yet I was able to and it was the game changer I needed. It gave the set a purpose, a central hook that I could build it around.
On top of opening up new poses for my G/G projects, it was just a change of pace that I needed myself and added more variety to my content.
Speaking of technical issues, this location was pretty tough to use. The lighting was a bit tricky but nothing I’m not used to tweaking. No, the main issue was the time it took to render. Most of my images take anywhere between 3 to 5 minutes to make.
Yet for this set it was taking 6 to 10 minutes. This really threw my rhythm off in a big way as I was waiting longer just to render an image and I would often see mistakes or improvements in the final image, so I’d go back, make said changes and then have to wait 8 minutes all over again.
Before I can crank out 3 to 5 images in an hour, here I was lucky to do 3 images. That change to my work flow was the main culprit for why this set took so long to come out.
But overall I’m happy with the end product. I struggled a lot in the middle, but I was able to salvage something by the end that I feel is up to my standards.
As always, love to hear any and all thoughts you guys have. Was the strap on content good, is it something you’d like to see in the future?
Cheers,
Belethor
